You are right they are lots of work, depending on what type you get. The more intelligent the more work.

As for being dirty and smelly that is not true. If you give them a shower/rinse once a week they smell just fine. We waited until our bird was 6 months old to give him a shower, he didn't smell. They can be caged trained so they go to the bathroom only in their cage. They only tend to be messy in the way they eat their foods.
