How do I get videos online?

Allright I've tried this on my own and nothing has worked so I'll consult the experts. I have a WINtv tuner card and I have the video rca output on the video camera running to the tuner card. I have the audio (mono) rca output on the video camera that goes into a regular computer jack (mini jack thing) and I plug that into the microphone slot. I can get video and sound to play, but it won't record. I think I need to have the audio line run into the "line in" on the tuner card, but for some reason, when I do that, I get no sound at all. Anybody have any ideas what's going on? I got some video of my car and I plan on doing more but I can't get the stuff on the computer so where's the fun in that. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sean

Aight...let's see if I can help. I think I have the same WinTV card as you. On my pc, I click on the WinTV2000 software to start. When the window comes up, there's a button on the bottom right that's for the RC (remote control). That should bring up a seperate window that looks like a remote. On mine, there's a help button that I can click on. In the help window that comes up, there's a subject like "Capturing Images and Video" that I always have to read before I can get video to the hard drive. That should take care of the transfer...as far as the connections, I think your supposed to have the audio from the camera connected directly to the line-in port on the sound card and the video connected to the TV card. Then, you need to check the audio in the mixer settings by double-clicking on the little speaker on your taskbar (by the clock on the bottom right of the screen). Make sure the line-in is NOT muted and at a decent volume level. Oh, and make sure your speakers are on too . After that, you should be good to go. Just follow the directions from that help screen. Lemme know if all turns out well...

BTW - The instructions on my version tell you to make an "uncompressed" .avi file so it will be huge. What I usually do is import it to Windows Movie Maker and convert it to a .wmv file. If you need help with that part, lemme know.

Okay well I managed to get it to save now. I actually switched the mini jack so that the sound went through the red plug on the thing instead (it SHOULD make no difference, but somehow it worked so I'm not going to ask). I still have it going into the microphone slot but I changed the source on wintv so that it reads off of the microphone input. Maybe the "line in" slot is broken on my card or something, but it's working how it is now so I'll leave that alone. The files it made, as you had mentioned, are fricken huge (44 megs for 40 seconds of video). What program do you use to make em smaller and converter it to .wmv? Thanks a bunch for your help man.

My pc came with Windows Movie Maker on it, so I use that. If you got it, it should be under START > PROGRAMS > Windows Movie Maker (near the end of the list). If you got it, run it and go to File > Import and find the movie file you made. After it loads, you should see a whole bunch of clips that were created. Just highlight them all and drag em down to the bottom part that looks like a blank film strip. Then hit Save Movie up at the top. A window will pop up and you can adjust the settings to change the quality of the .wmv file. I usually set it to Other...NTSC (768 Kbps) to get a decent clip. After that, you just save it. Hope you got the program....it's nothing special, but it's awesome to be able to compress things down to a decent size.
