Heads & Cam install?

How much would your expect to pay to have a heads and cam installed? How easy would it be to do yourself (with help from friends of course).

Thanx in advance...

I did mine myself, it wasn't too bad. Just need to be patient and give yourself a day or two to do it (two or more would be preferrable). Depending on who you have install it would really depend on what they would charge. I know what I'd charge, but it'd be less than most with no accountability! Pictures of my install are on my website.

I'd probably charge ~$400 for heads and cam or ~$300 for just a cam under the condition that the car would get on a dyno to get the A/F done right. I haven't checked what others are charging though, that's just a guess. If they did it cheaper (reputable shop) I'd go lower in some cases.

Are there any special tools needed to complete the job? Or that will make the job easier.

Metric gear wrenches, fuel line tool, breaker bar, socket wrench and some metric sockets. A 250 lb-ft torque wrench will be needed for the pulley. That's about it. Depending on if your car is manual or automatic you will need something to lock the crank down so it doesn't spin when you try to break the bolt loose. It's just a knuckle breaking experience. Take your time and possibly look at getting a Helms manual.

I was going to say $500. But I dont have power tools. It is quite a job, but easier the more you do. Knowing the tricks helps.

We are going to do a cam install on Joe's car soon, so I get even more experience.

I think that you could do it, provided that you have patience, and dont force anything. Stop if you dont know something, and def have a helms manual. A friend helps when it comes time to pull the pulley. You wont need more than one person to help. Double check, tripple check, when putting back together. Good luck.
