Cutting out the fat....

I'm trying to remove as much excess weight from my car as I can. So far I've removed the impact braces from the doors, removed some of the rear bumper stuffs (the honeycomb looking crap), replaced the K-member with a tubular chrome-moly one with matching control arms, and I'm getting ready to "modify" the front cross brace a bit with a sawzall.

Anyone have any tips on what else I can hack outta this thing?? I don't want to gut the interior any more then it already is (took back seats out) so where else can I take weight off this thing?

Free Things:
!All sound deadening (underhood, under-carpet)
!spare tire
!A/C

$ -> less weight:
Fiberglass hood
aluminum engine parts (heads, water pump, etc.)
lightweight wheels/ tires
use helium to fill tires
Go on diet <- variable results depending on starting condition

I deleted all the sound deadning
I removed the spare tire
I have a hard top car so the A/C stays

I'm getting an SS hood
Already have aluminum heads, intake, water pump, and valve covers.
At the track I'm gonna run the lightest wheels I can.
Helieum is an interesting idea
I only weigh about 165 (I'm guessing) but I'm still trying to loose some

What's the rules on bumpers?

dont have to have them. the steel bumper underneath that is. your ins. company wont be happy to find that out though. if you drive it on the street much then Id leave that inplace. a slight fenderbender w/o that bumper in there will take out the whole front end. including the new hood, a/c condenser, lights, fenders, probably push the strut tower braces back too. in my opinion its not worth it if you drive it on the street much. since your keeping the a/c stuff, Im gonna assume your plannin on doin that.

I have a manual steering gear from an s-10 on my car. it weighs about 10 lbs less then the power gear, and you get rid of the pump/fluid/hoses/pulleys from the car. plus less drag on the crank turning the p/s pump. but if you plan on autocrossing the car, forget it. but it still turns very easy w/all the weight removed and skinnys upfront.
