Post Cars runnin' lean!?!?

What can I do to fix this problem? I went to Ubly this weekend and my best run was a 13.411 at 104.XX with a 1.9XX 60' I was a little dissapointed but it was kinda hot out. Not to mention Firehawk69 was there and we autotapped a run and I had almost 4 degrees of knock retard. How can I fix these 2 problems? My car is a 98 with only a lid descreened MAF, 2600 stall, and 3.73 gear. I really don't want to pay big money for tuning since I only have minor mods. Thanks in Advance!!

LT1car is selling a fairly cheap laptop seems decent for $450. You can also get a maf translator used for around $100. Your average O2's were around .88 for both banks, so a little lean, but not that bad. Don't forget it was nearly 90 degrees and humid, I sure it will run better once it gets cooler. The maf translator works, I fooled around with one for about a month and finally gave up. It takes a while to get it perfectly adjusted, but ended up selling it for an lS1 edit tune. I personally would gut the cats get your catback installed and get the edit tune, adjust timing; air fuel; shift points;speedo corection; torque management if any issues; turn off ses lights(no cats. It's just more versatile, many more options. Plus I've herd some of the 98's got shady promgramming, don't know if that is true, but was told by a trusted performance shop.
Good luck

I just reread your post and noticed you had a descreened maf. Thats why you are getting the knock retard, no doubt about it. The maf sends the signal to the computer and it can't accuratly read the air coming in and will not adjust the fuel properly. Cheap fix is to buy a maf translator and richin your wot mix a tad. That should solve the problem, I had the same problem on my 98 after porting the maf.

I just looked thru my tool box and I could not find the screen to my MAF. I know that I saved it so I'm thinking it might not be descreened after all. I would go check but my wife has the car at work so I'll have to check tommarrow. I'll post when I know for sure.

Well I just looked at my MAF and it is descreened. Now I can not find my screen so the next question is does anyone have a screen? Or a stock MAF? I will look for mine some more but it doesn't look good.

Once the screen is removed, you cannot put it back in the maf. Just find a good deal on a used maf translator, that will most likely solve your Knock retard issue. If needed I can help dial it in for you, since I have your run saved on file.
