Brakes squealing, driving me nuts.

Guys/Gals,
Any ideas would be appreciated.

The rear brakes on my wife's van squeal, but not all the time.
The times it makes noise isn't consistant either.

I've replaced everything with new components.
Drums (not rear discs), shoes and wheel cylinders. I've also
tried adjustments in and out, and it still makes noise.

Again any ideas would be helpful, this is driving me crazy and
taking away wrenching time for my car.

has it always done this?
maximas are notorious for sqeeking, nothing you can do. probobly too many lines of symetry or poorly designed rear calipers

Trey,
The brakes haven't always done this (just lucky I guess).

Killer,
The rears on the van are drum, not disc. Good thought though.

Thanks for the reply guys. I think I'm going to try GM shoes
instead of the the Murry's brand and see if that cures it.

Killer,

Thats OK, I think the area you are talking about is the
point where the shoe contacts the backing plate. I did
clean those areas and put a thin film of grease there.

That squeak is usually as the shoes move out (applied)
and when they move back (retracting). This squeak is
when the van is rolling. It happens at different speeds
and different peddle pressure, and not all the time.

If I get this figured out I'll post it here, for anyone that
has encountered the same issue.

Again Thanks for the replies.

Zdriven, Im a tech at a pont. dealership. #1, the murrays cheap brake pads/shoes will squeek alot. def. try the gm shoes. that should at least help it. #2, some noise is unfortunatly normal. I havent had too many montana's do that, but some do. and #3, there's nothing you can do if the noise is from the condensation buildup that we get during some mo.s of the year. (more so in cold times). that noise will be loud first thing in the mourning, then get quiet and go away after you drive it for a few mi.s. good luck w/it and let us know what you find.

IrocSS85,

Thanks for the info, I haven't had a chance to swap the
pads yet, but I don't think I will get cheap pads again.
Go figure, I put good pads on the Camaro and no
problem, put standard (cheap) ones on the van and
end up with a mess.

Turns out cheap parts will cost you every time.
I will let everyone know if the better shoes cure my
problem, once I get them done.
