Bent Pushrod!
Bent Pushrod!
I can't believe it. Last week, Denny needed to borrow one of my rocker arms from my motor (long story). Well my car was already put away for the year so pulling a rocker cover and yanking a rocker was no big deal, it's all coming apart again anyway. So I pulled the drivers side cover, and found the rocker arm for the #7 cylinder intake valve was turned. The pushrod was jammed up next to the rocker holding it sideways. Luckly, all the got hurt was the pushrod, I think. I haven't pulled the intake manifold off to see what might be in the lifter valley, but either way, it doesn't matter. The heads will be comming off soon for some work, and a different, more better cam will be going in. More better....
Anyway, I have no idea why it did this, but with the way it was running before M8, I think it's safe to assume I did all my racing on 7 cylinders. And I still had some damn impressive times. I'm gonna die in this car.

I don't know what the whole Donna thing is all about but it sounds like your rocker arms weren't adjusted properly which allowed the pushrod to sneak out and robbed you of some power, I can't stand my stock stamped rocker arms.
I bet you had one valve too tightly adjusted. I did that once back in the day and thats what happened to me. and yes, you know somethings not right when that rocker pops off. if the push rod is not physcally bent, then prolly loosened up on ya.

You would have known if it was running on only 7 cylinders. It would have run like ***.
Sounds like one of your adjusting nuts backed off over time.

no ifs ands or butts, no passing go and collecting $200 its just a trip to wrenching jail
The lifter is still in, thanks to my hydrarev kit, but it looks like the adjusting nut just came loose. I'm just happy my Pro Magnums didn't get hurt, that would have sucked.
The car runs so rough because of the cam as it is, it's kinda hard to tell when somehting is wrong with the engine. I've hardly driven the car at all with the new motor anyway, I'm not used to it's sounds and it's behavior, and I just had an exhaust system put on it that I'm not used to yet either.
But anyway, it's not gonna happen again, I'll take my time next time adjusting them.
