I am looking to purchase a set of True Duals and was wondering if anyone knows if its illegal to have dumps before the axle? Also, has anyone ever said your car looked ghetto because of the true duals? I told my friend who has an 03 cobra and he said if he saw my car on the road, he'd think it was ghetto because it doesnt have an exhaust all the way out the back.

 

I highly doubt it would be illegal to have them dumped, the only illegal issues deal with noise pollution (too loud) or maybe emissions. Next week I plan on installing headers on my vette with true duals, I'm using glasspacks not even real mufflers, I only hope it won't be too loud. On the 2002 Z28 I had an exhaust cutout before the rear axle and it worked great. On my vette I plan on running dual 2.5 inch pipes right under the diff. and all the way out the back but I have IFS and don't have a solid axle to worry about. I don't think dumping the exhaust under the rear axle will look ghetto at all, its cheaper, louder, and less restriction without the bends. The only down side is that you will notice a lot more resonation. Good luck.

 

I've never had a cop bother me about mine, even pulled over I had a cop say, can you turn the car off so I can hear you. You can clearly see the muffler underneath stop before the axle, so if it is illegal I doubt anyone will bother to hit you on it. The glasspacks do make a very loud sound, nd resonate pretty bad at certain rpms, they aren't to bad until you put in a bigger cam and ported heads, then its real loud, but sounds great. I smell more exhaust fumes, but its not bad, I knida like it. The resonance isn't bad at all, just hen I first take off, then it goes away. ITs there from about 1200 rpm to 1600rpm

Actually,it is illegeal to have them exit under the car. They prefer over the rear axel, but as long as it exits out the side the car (i.e. fastest street car exhaust) they dont care. But in the respect of before the axel dumps, guys in elcaminos have been doing it for years, so i doubt wether any law enforcement officials will care, lol. Prorac1
