Any good trans shops
Any good trans shops
Just got a quick estimate on my A4. They said that the bands are shot for my 2nd gear.
Anyone know of a good shop or someone to rebuild the trans? Seeing that its going to be rebuilt I'll put in a shift kit for my 1st performance mod.
Thanks Dennis

One of the best in the midwest is Jim's Performance Transmissions (JPT), in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. JPT even has their own CNC lathe and mill for turning out their own custom sun shells.
JPT does a lot of business for drag race and monster truck teams.
Bring them your transmission if you want a 100% guarantee of a bulletproof trans, but prepare to pay for it. I think they quoted me $1200 to rebuild my 700R4 for heavy duty operation.
I found a shop in Dewitt, Michigan (Leon's) that did an adequate job for $550, but it cost me about $1000 in stereo equipment after a theif broke in during the night and ripped it all out. I wouldn't recommend Leon's though, unless you just want a stock rebuild. They weren't too in-tune with my ideas of performance, and it took a little convincing that there are truly lock-up performance torque converters that stall above 1800 RPM.

Checkout Speedworks. They've hooked up with a tranny builder who just did an awesome full race build and vacuum modulator on my tranny. All the good stuff! The full build was a little over $1300.
Give Greg or Phil a call and tell them Sparky sent ya!

Speedworks uses RC Trans and Gear. Great guys and they do great work. I wish I had them rebuild my tranny but instead I just had them tell me that mine was SHOT. Oh well...you can learn from my mistake and let them do your work. I've only heard good things about them.

I've got to jump in here and say NO NO NO NO NO.
JPT knows absolutely NOTHING about 700r4/4l60e transmissions.
My buddy Tom had them do his and it's been out of the car 6 times since. He bought the tools and manuals to tear it down himself and found more stuff done wrong that I could ever recount. But it didn't have more clutch discs, or the wider band, or the heavy duty servo. And on and on.
JPT might do great work on old school trannys but I'd never let them anywhere near my 4l60e.
