SUNNY day; Alternator probs....

Got the car out. Romped out to fill the gas tanks. On the way back home floor it and as I backed off the gauges go wacky and the car stumbles. Have a small heart attack. Just a small one. Make a turn on a street to the development which has three speed bumps. Every time as the car descends the speed bump it "dies" but I accelerate and the car runs again, notice the battery is being drawn big time. Skipped a few stop signs. Got the car quickly backed into the garage. Find the battery terminal bolt completely out of the Alternator!!!!

Took the Alt out, open the Alt and luckily not only find the terminal bolt's nut inside, but no damage to the internals of the Alternator. Reassemble the Alt, reinstall the Alt and everything seems find. Again.

Drove a few miles without anymore issues. Had Carol do a driveby... boy you can hear it coming and definitely leaving.

What did everybody else do with the return of the SUN???

talk to ryan, (bow94z) his buddy pete (wildthingz) has a 11.x car who could probably take on the cobra. i heard back from ted the other day, he gave me a earful. "you only call me to race someone, not just to say hi" so i guess it didnt go the way i planned. he did say its now a trailer queen anyway.

Well since it's so nice out I got to be inside at work all day! Although yesterday in the rain I got to help PAGREGSS move into his new place.

It was nice enough out Friday night that I got to actually got to drive the Z around the block to test the new tuning. Didn't have the PC hooked up to do any data logging so I did go too heavy on the peddle or into boost.

BUT

Ouch! you guys are cruel!!!

Well the "POS" is definitely looking damn fine today for a car having over 73,105 miles and is just recuperating from major exhaust surgery.

I also gave in capped off the AIR intake on the passenger header. Got tired of having to unconnect that piece everytime I had to recheck the header bolts. I'm thinking of "plumbing" that now nowhere AIR tube into the intake for some more "force air injection". Bahahahahaha. Yeah, I just need some duct tape, bail wire....

Woohooooooo!!!! Good news to hear!!! Now maybe you can come out a play???

Carol's dumpy attitude of the day definitely improve with just a short drive around the block. She alos couldn't believe it accelleration ability. I laughed, "it's nothing like some at the track, but you really should take it out on the interstate." "Seriously?" she asked. "No, now get out of my car..."

That's not what I said when the battery bolt came out of the Alt... I used the POS and a few other not nice terms quite frequently until I found out what the problem was and fixed it. roflmao....

Re: SUNNY day; Alternator probs....

Well, I finally bought another 4th gen on Friday so I spent Saturday in the garage cleaning it up and took it out for spin today. Man, what fun to drive a 4th gen again. It's giving me an SES light that they told me was a "random miss" code so I'll have to fix that to pass inspection. But it was a decent deal on the car and I couldn't turn it down. Oh, and Ron, I found one of the alternator mounting bolts hanging halfway out so I had to run out and find the correct lock washer and nut to keep it in place.

No, it's not the car's fault.
Actually, it's rather odd that a nut on the inside of the Alternator worked itself off. The battery bolt on there has a square shaft through a square hole thus assuring that the bolt never turns internally from the constant removal and connection of the battery cable to the bolt.

It was interesting to figure out how to get the bushes back into their holders so that I can put the armature shaft section back on...

And, yes, I super glued and wrapped the nut in duct tape so that nut won't come loose again....
