Well the long awaited track test day has come and gone. The numbers are disapointing but I know where my problems are.
Got 2 runs in then loaded the car up.
The car makes good power but I cant get it to the ground.
Run 1 went like this: Big smokey burnout rolled to the line and hit the beams. Lights dropped I hit the gas! spun a bit and the car started to move, BAM! 2nd gear at 4500 rpm
... motor bogged, started pulling back up and BAM 3rd gear at 4500 rpm! motor bogged again and I ran it out to the finish line. Crossed the traps at 6800 which took what felt like forever to get to! First pass resulted in 12.4 at 114.
It was hot and the cutout was closed for the noise police.
I grabbed my laptop to try and change the shift points and thats when I realized the cable for the LT1 edit was not there
. No idea where it is I have to look for it.
so 2nd time shot come up I decided to manually **** it to hold the gears longer.
Burnt out and hit the beams. Lights come down I hit the gas! Spun like crazy and motor bogged again. Next thing I knew it was starting to pull rpms up... thats when I realized it was in 2nd gear again... I looked down and the shifter was in 1 but it was defiantely 2nd gear... wound it out and manually threw it to 3rd.... nothing, just bounced the rev limiter at 7000 rpm. Got out of it tossed it in neutral, dropped it back into gear and hit it again. Now its in 3rd. ran it out but it was too late. Damage was already done and went thru the traps at 13.0 @105
The motor seems good but it doesnt run worth a crap after a pass. It stalled 3 times on the way back to my pit and it wont shift gears... I dont think there are any tranny issues its all tuning and tuning of the trans tables.
I am not happy with the tuners work on the motor and I will not go back to get it fixed. He did noting with the trans obviously and that will need alot of work to get right. But otherwise it was a good day and at least I had fun going down the track.
I sat in 3+ hrs traffic on the NJTPK because an accident closed it and I got on no knowing that.
The car really needs an aftermarket engine management system and/or a Turbo 400
Neither of which I will get but its got a low 11 in it if I can work out a few of the bugs.
The converter isnt right either needs more rpm on the line. Something like a 5000/5500 stall would be better. But its got 4000 in it so thats what I have to work with. Fun day but felt like August!!

definately first day of school. If I had my cable I would have changed the shift points, or at least what I think are the right menu's for the change for shift points. Its a shame GM used MPH for shift and not rpm. Makes it sooooo much harder to figure out. I understand why they did though. Mass produced street cars its a better option.
As for a glide, I honestly dont think its got enough motor for one. (never driven a care with one though so hard to say) Reality, its got a 4l60e and thats what its sticking with
Heck my last run was basically 2nd and 3rd and it was a pig.
If I get the shifts figured out I think its got mid to low 11's in it. A 28" tire and a 150-200 shot and its well into the 10's.

First thing I think the tires are beat... They are only 27's and have been on the car ofr 5 years and not used for the past 4 at least. Probably needs some tq arm adjusting and some good shocks up front. No $$ for them though.
I'll work on the shifts and get it down into 11's and go from there.

They are Hoosier QTP's... I could feel them start to stick while heating them up. I did 2 big John Force burnouts to try and bring them to life a bit. No biggie, I know what its capable of.
I just found my slips the second run was a 1.93 60, 13.0 at 107. The guy in the booth asked meif I had nitrous and looked at me like I had 2 heads when I said no... then he handed me my slip
First run was a 1.72 60 but it still spun.

Even with a good tire I dont think I have enough suspension or converter for that. Maybe the Yank will do it but The front suspension is stock right down to the shocks!
Where is budds creek? never heard of it. I dont get out racing much anymore.... obviously since it too 2 years to get the car out since it was done.

Brian,it was great to see ya again. You'll get the car hammered out. It just takes time.definately gonna need some new tires,BUT,if you dont have the funds,go pick up some vht or similar traction compound and coat the tires and let it sit. we did that a long time ago with a set of slicks that sat for 4 years and they started hooking again, and got the owner some time to buy new 1's.
Right there with ya on the traffic, took me 3.5 hours to get to exit 7a,but i made up time on 295 trying to let the aggression out.

Good seeing you too Dirk... been a long time I almost forgot you name
Nice GTO btw, sitting in that car brought back memories of having a car to drive on the street and I miss it.
I'm gonna just try another t-n-t day at atco some time and try to adjust the shift points in the PCM. A few runs with some trial and error and I bet I could get it right.
The one thing I can say is thze even with poor shifting it still has great MPH for the times it ran... I mean my old motor ran 11.9's at 112. First pass off the trailer with it short shifting big time it pulled almost a 115 mph trap. Get it right and I bet its got a 119-120 mph run in it. That's easily a low 11 if it pulls a 1.4 60 like mdacton said.
I'll try the soak trick next time out and just use whats left of these tires. There is enough left to use them and make the shift points right.

I got stuck behind some dude in a Blue GTO. There were so many people trying to shoot up the shoulder on the right I got pissed and just pulled out there. I pulled up next to the dude in the GTO and we spent the 2 hr drive from 8 to 7a bs'ing and watching pople get pissed off to all hell in the rear view mirror. Could of them got brave and rode down into the grass and I speed up and moved into the grass a bit to push them into the rut. 1 dude almost bit it but did make it out. That was the best part of the drive
Well...
Glad to hear that you finally, finally, got to the track.
But you definitely need to get things tweaked in 'cause you can't have me running faster.
If I can make the trip the same time you are at e-town or Atco, I'll let you borrow my DRs for a couple of runs. Hell, they are on your old SS rims...

hell you got lucky with only 2 hours. yeah i was watching cars blow down the shoulders, things got real interesting when an ambulance had to make it to a woman who looked like she got heat stroke.
if i was in anything other then the GTO,i probably wouldnt have doors left cause i wanted to take out any number of bikes blowing down the dotted lines.
