? for ProjectZ?about Hooker LTs
How was the sniffer w/ those headers...any problems...Ive seen a ton of guys running them here, but some say they wont pass...Thought they came w/ the proper emmisions connections? Thanks
Actually Bill, youre right and wrong. The cam isnt that big... cc305 220/230 so with the proper tuning it will pass. But I have not tried with the headers because of no cats. My last sticker was purchased from a crooked shop I found 2 years ago. The guy didnt mind since I hardly drove the car on the street anyway... but long story short I ended up just pulling the car from the road. Its just too hard to drive it in NJ.
Ant, the LT's can be made to pass a sniff test if you have no cam or a small cam with proper tuning and cats. This is also assuming you keep the EGR function with todays new dyno tests. The problem is that you still cant go to state insp... you will not pass a visual. If you manage to get a sticker outside, if you get pulled over you better hope they dont "take a peak" at the car... youre in for some fines and tickets.
My answer to all these problems... stop driving it.
IMO, if your going to drive on the street, its not worth the risk. stick to a legal header with a CARB #.

Oh, and Jet Hot is offering a LT header with all emmissions hook ups. They are a copy of the Hooker just with all the additions of emissions and O2 connection. But they are not legal... its all a matter of how much you are willing to risk.
well guess that wont work cause I was also planning on running a cc305 which ive had for years since I had my old 97z...guess its gonna be slp shorties...man jersey blows
Yeah if you want to drive on the street, my only advise is to just keep it legal. There are several headers out there that are CARB approved and retain allt eh emissions hook-ups while still providing a nice HP improvement. Stick with something that has 1 3/4" primaries and you should be fine. SLP is good, I have personally installed 2 sets of them. Anyway you look at it, a header install on an LT1 is a pain, but with some patience they will go in.
