Paging Project Z
Hey Brian, I just started tearing the car down for a cam install and I wanted to get your opinion on a deal I found. I already ordered a hotcam kit but they seem to be on B/O for a while so it's got me thinking of other ideas. I saw this package which looks to be a very good deal to me:

If I get it I was going to go with the 305, and the 1.6 pro Mag RR's. I know you have been very happy with your cam and I wanted to get your opinion of the rest of the components in this package before ordering.
Thanks,
Gregg

Gregg, looks ok to me. But I have a few question. First, whats the ratting on those springs? If memory serves me corect the 987 springs will be fine on a 305 cam. With the 1.6 rockers it will make .544"I/.544"E lift. I "think" those springs are good to ~.560" but I just cant remember. Second, you dont need hardened pushrods with the s/a rockers. But thats for you to decide. They are cheap (read:inexpensive) and its not going to hurt. The last and my most important question is about the timing chain. All they say is a new "GM" chain.... if its a stock LT1 chain I'd recommend that you look elsewhere. If you're in there, youd be crazy to not upgrade to a roller chain. If its a true "roller chain" that comes in the kit then I say go for it. I'm using an LT4 single roller chain and I bought it from them.
Call em and ask for specs on the springs and the timing chain. If they are ok, then it looks like a good deal to me. Toss in another $200 for the cam and youve got a pretty nice setup.
BTW, too bad you werent doing this later... I just might have a cc305 for sale in the future.

Brian thanks for the info. Yeah, I would think it is the stock LT1 chain since they don't mention anything special. I was curious what chain you used since I've read about the issues with using aftermarket roller chains in OBDII cars, which LT4 chain chain did you get the "stock" LT4 or the LT4 Extreme duty? Maybe I'll get the package and just get another chain, I could always sell it if it's just a stocker. I thought about upgrading to hardened pushrods any way just to be safe so that's a plus. I wasn't sure about the springs but I'll ask them when I order. So you ordered parts from this company before? Did you have any problems with them? I'm just curious because I've heard some negative things about them. Again thanks for your help
Oh, and how far in the future are you changing cams? If it's in the next 2 months I may be interested
