OMG!!! it ran today!!!

Well after a long tired weekend of working on teh car I actually fired the new motor today. Unfortunately it only ran for about 5 sec then died. I think its because I still have not flashed the PCM with a new program and the VATS is shutting it down.

All I can say is holy crap! That sucker is LOUD!!! open headers for its first start and I almost pooped my pants. It had 75psi oil pressure and I managed to rev it up real quick. Restarted again and a quick rev and the wife came running out the back door it shook the walls in the house

I have to work on the fans... they are not working for some reason and I have to get them working to be able to run it for any length of time.

I say, I say "Amen", Brother John!!!! Praise the Lord for the spark that afires a slumbering engine into a Hell's fury. There is no reckoning like that of the roar to life of the long apart beast. Amen, amen the Bri Beast has arisen, Lord have mercy on our souls....

When I grow up, I want to be just like Brian.

ANYWAYS, dude.... great "noise" to hear from you. If I can't hear you under the overpasses, I at least like to hear you passing me "like I was parked" on the track.

yeah actually My buddy came over tonight and we played with the tuning a bit. We managed to make it idle on its own. Had to adjust the throttle stop screw on the new Holley TB and reset the TPS to the right idle and WOT volts.

Oh I bolted the exhaust back up the other night its just too loud to run without it. I disturbed neighbors over 2 blocks away...

Anyway idles ok... not great. Idle set at 1200 and it still has a tendency to want to stall. Get this.. vacum is 9-10" at idle, lol...(can we say BIG cam?) As a referance my old motor with the 305 cam pulled 18".

Got the motor hot and started it several times. Oil looks good, oil pressure holds 50psi at 1200 and 75 off idle..

We have a bit of a tuning problem though. Maybe you guys can help. Hooked up with HP tuners to try and read the PCM... all was ok untill we fired the motor then we lost data communication with teh PCM. We thought it was because the HP tuner that Tom had was for new stuff but the Project is still OBD2 and it should work. So we moved on to use my Autotap. Same thing. We have data when key on engine off and cranking, but as soon as the engine fires we lose communication with all scan software.

I have to get this figured out to tune it. Any ideas? We are running out. Been thru all the wiring to the ALDL and all checks out ok so far.

Besides that I gotta say this thing is nasty! I think this monster has what it takes to give the LS1 crowd a run for their money It idles like a true race motor. A quick blip of the throttle and it revs up fast to 4500-5000 rpm. Turn the key off and it has so much compression that it just stops dead in its tracks, lol.

We were looking into ths data problem and the car started having idle issues, and stumbling problems. Next thing we know it wont start either... I think it ran out of 3 year old gas... hehe

Brian, it sounds like you have your hands full, good luck with the computer issue. Just out of curiosity were you using the same cable for each attempt? There might be an issue with the cable your using getting feedback or something where a resistor or diode failed...

If you haven't done so already, try your cable and tuning software on another car and see if it does the same thing, if not then look into your wireing...

I havent tried it on another car yet. I'll plug it into the Yukon next time I get out there but It did the same thing with 2 different laptops, 2 different softwares and 2 different cables. I think its either wiring related or and interference thing...

I have the same problem with my autotap. It will lose communication when I start the car. I have to start the car then astablish communication. This only does this on my car. I hook it up too any other acr I have and I don't have the problem. John

3 year old gas? drain that out in put it in your mower. Cam 2 (100 oct. ) is up to $5.75 here in Ewing. Went up .25 few weeksago. Better get some soon before it goes any higher?

Mine does the same thing with Diacom or TTS. I have to start the car, then plug into the car. If not the PC locks up.
