New Z Owner in MD
Hello all,
Yes, I'm new to the forums. I was thumbing through an old GMHTP magazine and read about these forums in there, thought I'd sign up for the club.
I finaly got my first camaro, a 1993 z28 in a greyish purpleish color (owner wasn't sure of the color name). I'm thrilled to own one now, I have wanted one since I was 7 years old, and could never really afford to own one until now.
She's a 93, bought form the original owner's daughter (the OO passed away a few months ago) in my neighborhood. The car has 64,000 miles, and I just picked her up this morning. It is an automatic, bone stock with the exception of a "high-performance chip" which the orignal owner installed in 1994.
I love the car and am eager to learn more about it, and interested to see what others here have done to their cars.
I will have pictures soon, but not much to show, like I said, she's stock... other than the one blemish on the car, some spots on the rear bumper where paint is flaking from a minor bump in a parking lot.
She's set for an inspection appointment on Monday morning, and I'm crossing my fingers all goes well... Maryland State Inspection can be a pain, depending on the mechanic's mood on any given day it seems
Well, I'll be lurking about, looks like a very knowledgable place to be!

Re: New Z Owner in MD
I dont see it having any problems passing if it just has a chip, plus its great mileage(id thats the actual mileage lol)...for your sake hope they didnt screw around w/ the exhaust...You'll learn alot here...I reccomend doing bolt ons 1st IE. Cold Air, Catback, Headers.
Re: New Z Owner in MD
Yeah, it should pass fine, not too worried, they always seem to try and get you for something though.
Yeah, it's low, original milage. Nothing else done, was an older guy who had it before. Yes, I have an old issue of GMHTP, it has the LT1 bolt-on shootout.. pretty impressive stuff. It would appear the free-mods may be in line first, then the full-exhaust and CAI would be the next step, judging by what little research I did today.
Question though, will simply "gutting" the catalytic converter actually free up some horsepower? I've read in several places that gutting this catalytic converter along with descreening the "MAF" and ditching the silencer on the intake box will free up some horsepower along with a cooler thermostat?
I guess those are questions that belong in the technical forums, or I should use the search function
Anyways, thanks for the suggestons, it appears those are the first steps to take for a little more power.
