i am having a difficult time figuring out why i cant get my valves adjusted correctly, i did the # 1 and # 6 cylinder technique with spinning the pushrod until it couldnt move, then set a 1/4 preload. so i thought i was alright and put the intake manifold back on and when i started the car, some ofthe rockers became loose, Something about adjusting valves that i just cant figure out, mayb its just me. My mechanic warned me about adjusting the valves.

Do one rocker at a time. Turn the engine over until the lifter starts to come up ( say intake valve ), then adjust the exhaust. Spin the pushrod and turn down the nut until you start to feel the tension, and the pushrod doesn't spin as freely 9 Zero-Lash ), then tighten 1/4 turn. Turn the engine over until the exhaust starts to open and adjust the intake valve the same way.

If you running after lifter such as Comp R's then only go 1/8 past zero lash.
