Maple Grove Closing???
Maple Grove Closing???
Has anyone else heard this? My brother in law told me yesterday what he's heard. Apparently MG has a new owner and it's all but finalized that it will be closing. It's slated that within two years it'll be a new development.
I sure hope not!!!
I took this from their website;
Additional paving, track milling, scoreboards on tap for Maple Grove
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12/11/2006
Maple Grove Raceway is already busy making plans for next season. Several facility upgrades are set for 2007. Each year, the Stauffer family has reinvested in the property, making it one of the largest-drawing tracks on the East Coast.
The first project is additional pit paving required due to the ever-increasing size of race rigs and hospitality that are now part of the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals. In 2006, several areas were paved, increasing pit parking for the race teams, and a terrace was built below the staging lanes for manufacturers and race car parking. A new credential building was also completed just prior to the 2006 Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals.
The track surface will be milled in late spring. The management also has planned for new LED scoreboards to be installed. In 1995, Maple Grove Raceway was one of the first tracks in the country to install CompuLink scoreboards that read to thousandths of a second.
As a reminder, the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals has moved from its traditional September date to Aug. 16-19 and will be the last event on the NHRA POWERade tour for the Countdown to 8.

What bothers me is what I see there as I drive in. Nothing but big houses going up closer and closer to the track. All I can think of is what happens at E-town with all the new neighbors complaining about the race track.
It can't be a money thing, every time I've been to MG they have them packed in! I've always heard that the Stauffer's always help the community and are well liked and loosing the track would actually hurt the area.
After last years "mud pit" when horrid rain swamped the place. MG reacted by bringing in many - many tons of stone, they purchased an adjacent piece of land and started adding more pavement to the pits and other VIP accommodations. According to the web site they are installing new LED boards, and plan to do more paving of the pits and grind the surface again in the spring, they did the surface only 2-3 years ago when the NHRA Pros complained about the "bump" in the left lane. I know none of that is cheap!
So I don't think all that would be planned if they had any plans to sell it for none-racing?
So get your car back together and get it to the Grove! I'll be waiting for you at the starting line!

When the local bars close, then start to worry!

Yea, I can't imagine them investing the money and turning around and selling. But Pampered-Z brings up something I hate.
Why do people move into a house that is near a race track and b*tch about the noise? Do they think people are going to bring their hybrid cars to MG? And the only time it gets real loud is when NHRA sponsored events are held. Which is what MAYBE a couple times a year. I just don't get it.
And about E-town, the only thing that is keeping it alive is the airport. Once, the airport is gone, the track will surely follow.
Just my 2 cents.

I heard it again Saturday night from a different source. Maple Grove has been sold. The last family member I guess had enough of it. Some large holding company or investment firm bought it. I also found out some more interesting things. Apparently over the last couple of years they were trying to expand. They bought an neighboring farm in an effort to build a circle track. However, they ran into resistance. It's been rumored the folks living nearby don't like the traffic so much. I guess we'll have to see what happens from here. I'm predicting it wont' be there is five to ten years.
when i made a stink a couple months back about pinks being fixed (rumor i heard which lead to a few nasty phone calls) i was speaking with george case the vp for MG. he talked about the sale of MG being a false rumor. apparantly someone started that and made it worse by saying they "seen the plans at the township building" so according to the vp, its false.

I AM VERY VERY MAD AND UPSET TO SAY THIS BUT I ALSO HEARD THAT MAPLE GROVE RACETRACK WILL BE CLOSING.
THERES A COMPANY CALLED TOLL BROTHERS WHO PUT IN A BID AND IS MOST LIKELY BUYING THETRACK.
DONT WANT TO WORRY ANYONE BUT THEY ALSO HAVE A BID INTO BUYING ENGLISHTOWN RACETRACK AS WELL
. THEY ARE A BUILDERS WHO BUILD LUXERY TOP END HOMES. THEY PLAN TO DEMO THE TRACK TO MAKE WAY FOR A WHOLE LOT OF VERY EXPENSIVE TOP OF THE LINE LUXURY HOMES. TOLL BROTHERS are Builders of single family luxury new home communities as well as active adult, resort, and golf communities, if you want to see what the track will look like go to www.tollbrothers.com IT'S A REAL SHOCK TO FIND THIS OUT BECAUSE I WAS JUST THERE OVER THE WEEKEND FOR THE Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals. NOW I FIND OUT THIS WILL BE 1 OF THE LAST TIMES THAT I WILL EVER BE ABLE TO SEE THE RACES AT THIS GREAT RACETRACK. ITS VERY DEPRESSING
. WHY CANT THESE GUYS BUILD THEIR HOUSES SOME WHERE ELSE. SO THERE IT IS. SORRY TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS.
