Interesting Email from Englishtown

Anyone else get it ?

ATTENTION RACEFANS:

Raceway Park needs your help and support!!!

On Thursday August 5th, a Public Meeting is being held to discuss the noise levels that affect the residents of Manalapan and Englishtown. Monmouth County Assemblymen Michael J. Panter and Robert L. Morgan will discuss their recent legislation proposal to remove the Motor Vehicle Racetrack Exemption from the Noise Control Act of 1971. This exemption is what makes it possible for racetracks of all types to operate unmuffled vehicles. This move would be devastating to Raceway Park, and could set off a number of changes the way racetracks operate both here in our area and all over the state. Founded in 1965, long before the wave of housing developments that now dominate our area, Raceway Park has remained a place for motorsport enthusiasts of all kinds to come and enjoy the sports they love. Raceway Park has been able to stay open these many years based largely in part on the vocal support of the many local race fans who have helped us to fend off these attacks in the past.
We now ask for that support again, so that we may silence those who oppose Raceway Park once and for all. The meeting is open to the public and will take place on Thursday August 5th at 7:00 PM in Manalapan Township at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters located at 125 Symmes Rd. The library is a mere 1/4 mile from the corner of Route 9 and Symmes Rd. and very easy to access. If you are unable to attend, please contact Assemblymen Panter and Assemblymen Morgan at 732-741-5599 and voice your opinion. You may also fax your thoughts to 732-741-0012 or contact them via email at AsmPanter@njleg.org or AsmMorgan@njleg.org. If you e-mail, please copy Raceway Park at etownrcwy@aol.com. You can send a letter to them at New Jersey General Assembly, Legislative Office, The Galleria, 2 Bridge Avenue, Bldg. 2, Red Bank, New Jersey 07701. Please come out and support Raceway Park, the home of fast family fun for over 40 years and for many years to come.

Re: Interesting Email from Englishtown

I heard this was on 101.5 last week, people calling and complaining about it.

Hey move away, the track was there first! Stop building complainer containers so near to the track!

Re: Interesting Email from Englishtown

I didnt get it but I saw this somewhere else. I sent an e-mail to express my views on the situation.

Here is the way I look at it. if the exemption gets dropped then E-town will close its gates for good in the not so distant future. And I am sure that other tracks will follow.

It just really bothers me to know that the track has been there since 1965. People build and buy homes next to it 20 years later and have the nads to complain, and are out to shut it down! Do they realize how much money that track brings in to the local area? If they go away then they will pay the price in a few years with higher taxes and loss of business. Not to mention they will have just opened a huge can of street racing...

If you dont like the noise... MOVE!!!

Re: Interesting Email from Englishtown

This is posted on several sites. Everybody needs to take some time and effort to help the track. This is just a continuation of crap that has been hurting the facility for a long time. This crap is happening to tracks all over the country.

As I am not a resident of New Jersey I sent an email and cc'd the track from a more tourist oriented perspective. Here is what I wrote:

Dear Assemblymen Panter and Morgan,

Although not a local resident I do visit your area frequently and spend my vacation dollars in your area because of the fine facility at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. In my state we do not have a quarter mile race track and consequently we have a significant problem with street racing. This primarily involves young men and women and innocent people who often are hurt as a result of these activities. If we had a facility in our area such as you have, even though some people would still choose to break the law, the loss of live and devastation to families would be less than it is. Your community is fortunate to not only have such a fine facility but to have so many dedicated racers in your community who work to mentor the young people and tell them to “take it to the track” and to not race on the street.

I also believe that your Raceway Park was developed originally in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. As far as noise pollution I have about the same amount of sympathy for people who move next to railroad tracks and complain about the noise, or people who move next to an airport and complain when they hear planes. My family comes from a very small town and there is a local contractor who has been in business since 1928 that has evolved from three people to an enterprise doing more than fifty million dollars a year in heavy construction activities. This contractor works with the community to provide what relief from the sounds of construction it can, but there are still times when the noise is distracting to the community. However the contractor was there prior to the most of the being built and is therefore grandfathered in the community in terms of noise and zoning. This is only fair and to do otherwise would not be ethical.

In your case, the race track provides significant visibility to your community because of the national event every year and specialty events. I have had the privilege of competing at your track and being featured in magazines because of my success at your facility. I jave enjoyed my times at your local lodging establishments and restaurants; I have enjoyed meeting the people in your area and have had the privilege of attending Rotary meetings in your area. Because your town has a wonderful racetrack and is reasonable and courteous to the racers who choose to go there you have these community benefits. Please do not reward people who fail to research an area prior to making what is often the largest financial decision of their lives. If I were buying a home in your area I would welcome being near Raceway Park.

Please come up with a compromise or plan of action that will allow the wonderful facility in your community to grow, prosper, and continue to provide a place for those people to go and compete safely instead of racing on the street. If even one life is saved because of this facility is allowed to operate the cost is well worth it. If one pedestrian is saved because a street racer had a track to go to, it is worth it. Please do not overlook the benefits this facility provides to your community as you ponder the direction of your town.

Thank you,

Re: Interesting Email from Englishtown

I got a reply from the management at Raceway Park today. In my email I expressed my views of the street racing problems that will come around. The other thing that the local residents dont realize is the amount of money the track brings to the local economy... Honestly I couldnt even put a dollar figure to it. But just with the 1 national event every spring I would belive they have to bring in millions of dollars.

People are going to race... with or without a track. It might not be legal but its not going to stop racing by paralizing the local race track. Its only going to make street racing a bigger problem.

E-town isnt the first with these problems and they probably wont be the last. But at least I can say I did something about it.

So pretty much what will happen is that they wont hear the cars across town at the track. They are going to hear them right out front of their house racing on their street! Its not like the track is open all hours of the night causing people to loose sleep.

Man that sucks! I went to that track so many times when I lived in NJ. I remember when I started going there there was none of the develpment around there that has surrounded the track.
The yup-sters have to ruin everything.
I'll fire off an e-mail. DOnt know if it'll do any good, but I'll send it.
