Gettysburg Airport Drag Racing?

Last year I heard that Gettysburg Airport was having drag races on Saturdays using flag starters and flagmen (persons) at the finish line. This year I hear that they have bought the old Christmas tree and electronics from the now-closed 75-80 Dragway and are thinking about making it a real, legal NHRA or IHRA track...

Anyone been there? (Its on Route 30 west of Route 97 about 2 miles outside of Gettysburg)...and anyone confirm or deny this rumor? A sanctioned track 15 minutes from my house would be ridiculous!

I'll run up there and see what I see this weekend, just wondering if anyone has been there...

News to me? I can't imagine hysterical society in G-burg letting anything like that happening. Alan, If it's only ricers, maybe we could go over and take some of their money

Anybody have any more info on this? A schedule? A contact? This might be fun but I don't need no cotton pickin heavy hitters on a heads up run

Re: Gettysburg Airport Drag Racing?

I'm trying to find out more. Some guys with Camaros and GNs who live near me go up there on Saturdays...Just don't know what time. They did say that they have turned people away because its gotten crowded. I also heard it was $20 for 4 tickets or runs, $10 to watch...If you win your race you keep your ticket. Even if you lose all 4 you still get 4 runs which is better than most of us get at a TnT night...I know that the airport is in financial trouble and when I did a search I found that there are nostalgia drag races there, too...This could be the beginning of a good thing...

Alan,

Looks like you and I would have a gas on a heads up run! You kill me out of the hole, and I try to catch up on the big end.

Re: Gettysburg Airport Drag Racing?

Yeah Steve, It would be fun...I hope to improve upon my times in my sig as I've since added Kooks stepped LTs and an EWP...Went a 10.98 on the mustang dyno 1/4 mile run, BUT with a 1.35 60'...gotta love dyno traction...Should be 11.20s at 120 on a good day at the track...Then we'll drop the 4 heavy 16x8s and slap on these new fangled Bogart things and see where we are...If I can hit a high 1.40ish 60' things will get real interesting...

I'm still trying to find more info about the airport....of course its gonna rain all weekend
