Fatality at Cayuga today :-(

I went up to Cayuga today to make a few passes. A 17yo girl driving a jet dragster demo car crashed into the barrier just after clearing the traps at 305mph. Quite upsetting to see it - be careful out there! Looks like something broke on the car or there was a problem with the chute. I doubt it was driver error, but who the hell puts a 17yo in a 300mph jet car??

Wow. I never like to hear news like this. I totally agree with you about putting a 17 year old in a 300mph race car. What a shame.

Re: Fatality at Cayuga today :-(

Supposedly, the crash was caused by one 'chute failing to open, putting the car sideways. When it hit the wall, the chassis came apart and the belts were no longer anchored. As a result, she was ejected and flew out of the car and hit a pole, leading to instant death. I thought I saw something come out of the car

Pretty girl too, not that it really makes any difference.

always sad to hear something like that. i wouldnt know why a 17 y/o was in that type of car, even if they were training her to go pro. too young to die like that

wow that sucks rich, im sure thats something very hard to stomach for you and everybody that was at the track. Hearing that brings me back to my first motorcycle fatality that is was an EMT on, the young girl was unrecognizable needless to say.

events like that can put alot in perspective for a person...
