I just got back from inspection and failed for my taillights being blacked out (which I can change), my windows being tinted (only 20% but it has to be clear) and for a too loud exhaust (nothing gonna happen with that). So I was wonderin if anyone could suggest maybe a very linient garage or mechanic or whatever and shoot me a pm or something. I have 45 days to do this, but the sooner the better.

In New Jersey...good luck, most shops because of fear of loosing there license wont be linient at all...You should have known the tint was illegal, I had it on my 97z when I bought it and was pulled over about 5 times the first few days I had it til I finally got the dealer to take it off...blackouts are no biggie, as for the exhaust being so loud, what are u running,never heard that one before. Gonna have just do like weve all done and take the tint off...I know it looks good but jersey blows.

I never got pulled over for the tint so I figured it was good, but oh well. The exhaust is the loud mouth with stock manifolds and Y-pipe. As for the tint there is an escalade in my town that has all of the windows blacked out and the windshield fully tinted, I guess he can only drive during the day, but ya this state does suck.

 

What test did they perform to determine that your exhaust was too loud?

As long as your exhaust isn't over 95 db from 100' away at a 50-60 mph cruise, they can't ticket you or fail your inspection because of it.

Hey Tru2 where did you get that information from? That is exactly what I'm looking for to bring into them. They said if I could prove my exhaust was acceptable then they will pass me.

 

I'll have to try and find the documentation online again, but I looked it up after a friend explained it to me about a year and a half ago. I'll post up when I find it.

Theres nothing wrong w/ your exhaust, sounds like you just got a ahole inspector...My car was kinda flashy when it was real clean (medium quaser blue w/ chrome wheels)...W/ those drl's you could see me comming a mile away thats probably why I was pulled over so much. Just ditch the tint and you should be alright....Factory tint is legal, not sure what type the escalade's come w/.

 

As it was said, in NJ, good luck. I failed every single one of my cars I've ever owned for loud exhaust. It's somewhat of a grey area, as they dont have one bit of equipment to test it, but if you put up a stink, they'll get all pissy and fail you for something else. Just find a local garage that will do it, it's not like you're throwing any codes, I'm sure you could find someplace. Good luck, my friend's 9 months overdue and failed 3 times with his 97.
