Emissions in NY?

Hey everyone,

Im currently living in missouri in an area with no emissions standards, but will be moving to Cortland County NY next year.

Am currently planning to install a cam and LTs, so curious if i would have to pass emissions next year in NY? I lived there about 8 years ago and didnt have to then, but dont know if they have changed since then...

thanks

Austin

upstate emmisions isnt as harsh as NYC. We dont have smog test or anything like that. You just have to have a cat in place. June it should all be changing to an electronic set up for OBD2 cars. If you have an OBD1 dont worry much about it (ecept for the smog test). But if you have an OBD2 your computer will be scanned for codes and o2 sensor readings after the cat. This info will be sent to albany and they will send you back a pass/fail. This is also going to up the price of inspections because shops will need an exhaust gas analyser and a deticated phone line strictly for albany (if they do alot of inspections). So I'm interested to see how this inspection thing will turn out. see-ya,

As paul said its gonna suck royally. Providing that you have an OBD2 the whole getting hooked up with a sticker since it will be sent to you from albany. A PCM conversion wont work either cuz the PCM I belive is matched to the VIN on your car so If you have an OBD1 conversion it doesnt matter

Its gonna suck,

Your car shouldnt be because it is OBD2 however if your local area is subjected to smog testing then that is a different story.

Get high flow cats. You should still pass smog, and still have a high flowing exhaust system. Any vehicle year your still going to be subjected to the sniffer, but OBD2 is going to be reading codes. Vehicles prior to 1995 it wil pass with the service engine soon light on. vehicles a 96 and later SES light will fail. Thats just because of the OBD2 internal operations tests. I think there's a way to get around the OBD2 tests with O2 sims. Albany will still see good working O2's which are not there. I was also thinking we could use an edit program like LT1 edit or a scanner to clear trouble codes before you send the info to albany. Just a thought. see-ya,

Paul,

That will workwith the edit programs and such but if their smart when they scan the PCM they'll see that it was tampered with and reprogramed and fail you on that grounds alone but i dont have a clue as to how good they will be about it. just a thought though, can somebody drop some info on whetheror not the computer leaves traces of programming or not,

Would my car beable to pass the smog test with AIR and EGR removed, but the cat intact?

I know the AIR and EGR are hardly ever active, so i dont see how it would make much of a difference. Maybe i would need an emissions tune?
