easiest way to dispose used oil??

I have around 10-20 gallons of used oil. I used to take it to the dump but they don't take it anymore. Whats the easiest way to get rid of this??

I know u can take it to service stations, but they won't take 20 gallons, only 2 I believe.

Right now I have a plastic gas containers filled with used oil, I just want to dump it somewhere.

your local auto parts stores can take it but I dont know if they will take 20 gallons off your hands. (it costs them money to get rid of it, and its not cheap). If you seriously have 20 gallons and you can get it to me I will dispose of it for you at my work. 20 gallons is no big deal for me... we go thru 500 gallons a week

Or you should go to a truck repair shop or something along those lines.

Re: easiest way to dispose used oil??

A lot of local garages will take it because they burn it in their furnaces. I take it to where my buddy works. You could also just drop it off in front of any garage or auto parts store during closed hours. My friend said every weekend there would be all types of coolant and oil in jugs lined up on Monday morning.

Later,

Steve.

Just open the local yellow pages and call around to a few repair shops, especially ones that have been open a long times, maybe some boneyards.

Someone's gonna have an oil -burner.

Re: easiest way to dispose used oil??

ye. some gas stations take it, some shops do. and some auto stores.. depends on the quantity. for 20 I would probably say an automotive shop.. I hvae a 55 gallon drum every 3 months to dispose of, and there is an Oil drop site at a texico station...(sp?) you just back up the trailer to the drop area, and tip the drum right onto the grate (after pullying the doors open) and let it drain.

(and if anyone wonders why i go through so mch oil.. I have 7 cars, and one Semi truck that i change oil on... nothing like dumping 7 gallons of oil at once from an oil pan... and all of the vehicles are driven.. except three.. but they make up for it in the summer time. (3000 miles in 1 week for example)

Here in Mercer County they have a household recycling day twice a year. You can take old oil, coolant, trans fluid, computer equipment, batteries, etc. They pretty much take everything except some of the older preservatives that have that chemical known as agent orange! Your county should have something set up as well.

From the Ocean County Dept. of Solid Waste Management website:

Ocean County Recycling Centers

Ocean County owns and operates two Recycling Centers. The Northern Recycling Center is located on New Hampshire Avenue (off Route 70) in Lakewood Township. The Southern Recycling Center is located by the State Motor Vehicle Inspection Station at the intersection of Recovery & Hay Roads (off Route 72) in Manahawkin, Stafford Township.

http://www.co.ocean.nj.us/location.htm

The two facilities both have 24-hour Resident Recycling Centers for aluminum and tin cans, glass containers, plastic beverage containers, aerosol cans, newspapers, mixed paper and residential cardboard. Recycling is also available during regular hours of operation at both Centers for household dry cell batteries and auto batteries, motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, tires, empty steel paint cans, boat shrink wrap, phone books, computers, cell phones, paint, leaves, light brush and Christmas trees. The hours of operation for the Northern and Southern Centers are 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Both facilities are closed on County observed holidays but the 24-hour Resident Recycling Centers remain open.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 02:25 PM.
