DIY porting finished! almost...

I know you saw some of the pics from my previous post before I started. Here is a quick example of how big the ports are on these heads and now this intake. This is a factory LT1 gasket under my LT4 race gasket. So you can really see how much of a difference there is between ports. The race gasket ID is bigger than the LT1 OD!!! And to think the stock LT1 port size is still even smaller than the small gasket!!!

Ok so here are 2 quick shots of the finished porting. I took JB's advice and also polished them with a cross buff. I did the big material removal with the 40grit rolls, then switched to 80 grit rolls for more precise enlarging. Then I went to some 80grit tapered rolls to contour the corners and walls. Then once I had them the way I wanted I hit them with a 120grit flapper wheel and the a crossbuff to polish them up a bit.

All I have left is to open up the TB opening for a 58mm. I ordered that tonight. A Holley 58mm TB is on the way. I'll match it to the intake when it gets here.

I have about 8 hrs total into this. Porting is not all that hard. It's just time consuming. My compressor was working OT and I have about $40 in porting supplies gone.

ok, here is a quick teaser pics also.

The intake is just sitting on ther and the header is haging by 2 bolts but you get the idea. I spent most of the weekend working on the intake and getting the K member in. And of course I cant just put a new K member in without cleaning up the A arms and painting them all

Still alot of work to be done. I might have a problem with the intake lining up. Just sitting there without the gaskets under there it looks like its going to be very close for getting the bolts in. I still need a set of rockers and valve covers.

I really with I knew how to polish aluminum. I would love to have a polished waterpump and alternator. I can polish a little but I'll never have the skill to do a waterpump.

I need a new alternator all together. This one is pretty beat up honestly. I painted it like that a long time ago. I really want a polished one. I really, really, really want a polished pump. But I refuse to pay $4 million for someone to do it for me. I need to just have this one polished or powdercoated.

Oh and the intake is going to stay RED!!!!! for a RACE CAR!!!!

GM Alternators
Get in touch with owner Rick Harmon and tell him "Elvis" sent you and that you are my mod-father. I use to work with the guy many moons ago and he set me up with my black Alt with the March fan. At least the price will be fair and not outrageous.
Also give him crap for his website sucking up to mustangs... bahahahaha.
