Anyone intrested in a beefed up 10 bolt?
Just gauging intrest in a beefed up 10 bolt. Its in my car now but it will be out later on this summer, probably sometime in August if all goes well.
-Factory 10 bolt out of a 95Z
-Genuine GM 4.10 gears
-Auburn style, GM 3 series carrier
-Factory ABS reluctor for the 3 series carrier
-Bearing caps have been converted to studs instead of standard bolts.
-aluminum T/A cover with bearing cap supports
-axle tubes have been welded to the case for strength
-Sphon LCA relocation brackets welded on
-factory axles and wheel studs
-new Timken bearings and new seals thru out
I bought this rear and rebuilt it last summer, less than 1000 miles on it total. The gears are used but have less than 3000 total miles. I replaced both axle seals and the pinion seal at rebuild. Filled with 75w90 synthetic and GM posi additive, and has been changed 2 times since rebuild. Yes the gears wine. I set the back lash tight for strength... set to .004"-.005". Wear pattern is good and I'm sure it can be quieted up, but it will require the gears to be reset. Personally, it doesnt bother me cause I cant hear it over the roar of the motor anyway
.
Ive got over $700 in parts in it. It would be pick up only when the rear is out. If anyone local would be intrested in the purchase of a pretty stout 10 bolt, let me know and we can work something out. The last 10 bolt I had wasnt built this tough and it held up to over 400, 1.6x launches and a few 1.59's before I wore out the carrier. This one has 15-20 passes on it tops and is built tougher.

hey B, as you know I'm a retard when it comes to cars. Would that fit an 02 Trans Am. Not that I'm having problems right now, but it's always good to know that I have a part available shoud something go wrong. LOL
Gene, it depends on what your car has. If you have traction control then no it wont work. If you have the standard 3 channel ABS that it should. Standard ABS used a reluctor ring and a pick up in the housing and the reluctor around the gear. With a TC set up they used independant sensors on each axle, and this rear is not set up for that. If I understand the traction control set up correctly then I should be right. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.
BAH, who needs traction control I just turn that **** off as soon as I start the car anyway. I basically wasted $500 bucks on something I'll never use. The car never sees wet roads...
so would it work NOW. hahahah
or is it still not compatable.

Well we will put it this way. Yes te rear will bolt into your car. TCS wont work but if you dont care then no biggie. Just leave the wires disconnected. But if you really want to know more, maybe we should ask this question in a fourm more suited... like LS1 tech? Gene, if we can get some answers and you decide you want it, I'll make you a "special" BBB racing deal

Gene, I did some reasearch and it seem that the traction control and abs work off of the same sensors. There are 2 reluctors on the axles that I dont have so you would have 2 wires hanging with nothing to plug them into. And the ABS sensor I have may have to go into the 12 bolt so then you would have a hole in the housing with no sensor to put in it. Let me know if your still intrested. Otherwise I'll just put it up for sale when its actually out of the car.
I have to keep it in the car for now, with construction of the Garage Mahal still on going, I need to be able to move the car from the garage to the street for a while.
