ZO6 or Granatelli MAF?

Im looking to buy a performance MAF for my 97 Z28. I was on SpeedInc.com and saw a ZO6 conversion for 149.99 that adds up to 18hp. My question is are their any advantages or disadvantages to buying this one as opposed to the Granatelli MAF, besides the price of course. Anyone that has this conversion how do you like it? Any input is useful, thanks to all in advance.

I'd invest my money into something better.

the money is not an issue, I'm just curious as to which one is the better bang the buck.

Well, I was always under the impression that the Z06 was better for the money. I'd like to see a dyno sheet that shows a 18hp gain from switching to a Z06 MAF...especially on a pretty stock Camaro. I would invest in a CAI, or headers or something, but it's your car, so have fun...

Both are done by Granatelli. The money difference is in the housing. Stock Z06 or Granatelli's composite housing.

IMO, I wouldn't mess with a aftermarket MAF, plus those claims are grossly exaggerated.

I've heard the stock MAF flows around 1000 cfm with the screen in, which is way more than the 475 cfm the stock throttlebody flows.

Plus people have mixed results from them. Some people run fine after, some people run like absolute crap. I haven't bothered with it, and never will.

I know I definately wont gain 18hp from a simple MAF, especially with not CAI or full exhaust, which by the way I plan on doing down the road anyway. Thank you asian sensation for answering my seemingly hard question.

I just received my Z06 MAF from speedinc and can't complain... my motor is getting worked on again so I haven't run it but it's a nice piece and can't beat that price! My stocker had seen better days after a P&P and descreening...the sensors were messed up so I ordered this one. Keepin the screen in on this one and not touching it, looks pretty cool...I got some pics on page 8 of my site below

Grantenelli makes that "Z06 MAF" that you're talking about... good luck if you get it, I've heard of some PCM programming nightmares with it. And the Z06 MAF is a composite body unit too, well 1/2 of it anyways.

1st off, it's one of the last mods I'd suggest for anyone, in reality you're NOT going to gain any HP... you're making it a little easier for the engine to breath, but by a mynute (sp) amount. I'd say you gain 10 hp MAX on a modded motor, and way less than that on an almost stocker.

Also I wouldn't touch either of the ones you are looking at with a 10' pole.. too may programming and miscalibration issues that I've heard of.

If you do insist on upgrading go with a re-programmed PCM, and the GM Factory Replacement Z06/LS6 MAF. Any programming place can put the correct Freq Vs Flow table into your PCM, and the adapter cable costs ~$20 from ramchargers. Not to mention you can get that MAF from any GM dealer.

Although you may have some fitment issues with the "Z06" style MAF, it's 4" in diameter Vs the 3.5" diamter for stock... that can create some issues with installation as well.

I wasn't trying to be a PITA about your question, but rather trying to help you out, because you will see better gains with other mods. I only wanted to give my opinion that headers or a CAI is a good investment, rather than an aftermarket MAF that sometimes doesn't really do anything or can even make the car run worse.

bro there are some peeps giving some good advice here the best is to leave the maf alone spend that 150 dollars and a few more and get some 1.6 RR they are proven 10 hp or cai just leave the MAF alone the stock flows more than enough for a mildly modded engine ....i have a z06 maf and i am going back to the stocker soon i am sending it off to have (injectedSS) run his tests on it to see if it is really doing any good but from what i i have seen from his tests on ported MAFs i think i am going to be dissapointed in this MAF. So trust the guys who have been here for a while and leave the maf alone that is why we come here to learn from others mistakes like hppIII and the MAFs are the biggest gimmicks out there. trust us when we tell you to leave something alone brotha. alot of us are telling you from experience not just what we heard.

5rwhp/5rwtq gain with the ZO6 over the stock desceened maf. This was the gain with current mods.

"97FormulaWS-6" if you really want to know if it's a good iead to get an aftermarket MAF...don't ask on this site....No one really knows and everyone will confuse you...this guy says that...another guy says that...then you get a headache....better to call up some F-body tunning shoppes and ask them if you really want to know....I've been asking that MAF question for like...forever on this site...even in the sreaches....no one truly knows...I just think the gains "vary".....o-well..Ported ends here I come.
