Question ZEX kit or Predator programmer

Help!

1996 Z28 which is pretty much stock except for a few minor bolt-ons. I would like to get into the 13's with my car the way it is, my best time os a 14.00 with a miss on #5 cylinder. (GO ME) but I got the miss taken care of and my car runs great. I would really like to put some juice on my motor, but a couple of people told me that I should get a programmer(hypertech, predator) before I do anything so I can retard my timing and adjust my air to fuel ratio and things like that. I planned on getting the programmer later on, but for the time being I was going to go with a ZEX wet or dry system. Any ideas would be great! I just need to get into the mid 13's!

thanks fellas,

-Jeremiah

Re: ZEX kit or Predator programmer

Hypertech programmer advances timing and leans the car out both of which is BAD on the juice. I would suggest looking around in N2O tech for specs. But basically you need a igition box that can pull timing such as msd digitial 6 or a great alternative is the mallory vii, and then you will need colder plugs, window switch, a heathly fuel pump, a FPSS, etc. As far as the A/F you can tweak that via the jetting. Oh and the juice enough to get into the mid 13's, no sweat. Enjoy the dope.

I've enjoyed my Zex dry kit since the day I recieved it a little over a year ago. Comes with a booster fuel pump that you add somewhere on your fuel line and all the silenoids you need to get it working. I have some nice kills that otherwise I would have gotten smoked.

DO NOT BUY A PROGRAMMER. they are a complete waste of money in my opinion. Try www.madz28.com for great tuning. He can tune you comp and that with some boltons like headers, cai and a good exhaust system ect... should put you in the mid to low 13s with good traction you could maybe even hit a high 12. O ya and i would also look into getting some 3.73 gears, they will wake your car up a bunch also.

Yeah custom tuning is actually also much cheaper than Hypercrap or Predator not to mention better. Using an ignition box for the timing retard is also better than using a tuner because it allows you to not compromise NA power with the lesser timing needed for juice.
madz28.com is good as is pcmforless.com I would think that they have to be the hands down most popular tuners for this board.

Thumbs up Re: ZEX kit or Predator programmer

one more question, I was also thinking about a new set of gears just to get me closer to the 13's.... anyone think it is possible with a set of gears that are not "overkill" considering I drive the car almost everyday... 3.73's sound good? I have no clue what to run and im not going to take advice from my friends who all drive mustangs...

Time for new friends...
I have seen that site before but Im not too keen on how it works... Do I just order a reprogramed PCM? or do i have to take the one in my car now and send it. Also is there any way I can have one custom programed for what I want my car to do? or does this company just make them by the thousands and you choose which one you'd like...

You can either send yours in for tuning ....or order one to swap out and send your factory unit back if you would like money for it. Takes about 10 min tops to swap the pcms out. These are definately not made by the thousands. (even though over the years he may have sold a thousand the programming is setup for the options on your car) It is setup for your car: Manual or Auto, and what mods that you have done from boltons to cams to whatever. He can also adjust for emissions bs, gear ratios auto trans options ...just about anythign you can think of that the pcm controls. This is the cheapest route that you can go and one of the highest hp/$$ ratios that you will find.

Look around his site he's one of the best guys you can ever hope to deal with and his product speaks for itself. I couldn't be happier with mine. Our satisfaction is his best advertisement.

I don't know all the Camaro details so maybe there is a clue here and I just missed it but what tranny?
If a t-56 4.10s all the way the .50 OD will tame them wonderfully. If an A4 then 3.42s are nice but most go with 3.73s.
