The Z is dead!! HELP!
The Z is dead!! HELP!
A few weeks a go I was driving the car (in neutral, coasting to a parking stall and the car just died.....) ok so whatever, turned the key off and started it again and all was fine. The next day, same thing....coasting to a parking stall in N and it just died....but, started again when I turned the key off and on again.
3 days ago: stopped to get the main, turned the car off.....came back to start it and the lights came on for a bit and when I went to fully engage the key all went dead. After about 10 seconds of fiddling with the key and moving it off and on the dash lights re-appeared, the diming noise came back and the car started!
Today: Drove the car several times today, no problems at all. Several re-starts like usual. Go into the garage to take off to a buddies house.....put the key on, turn it as I was about to start it.....dash lights came on etc, but when I went to fully engage the key start it all went dead. I now have no dash light, radio, and the diming noise only occurs if I fiddle with the key a certain way in the tumbler.
History: I've replaced the ignition switch once (3 years ago) and I disabbled vats using resistors last year due to a security light problem.
For this one I'm thinking either ignition switch or else tumbler??

Re: The Z is dead!! HELP!
Make sure the ignition switch plug isn't loose. Also, it sounds like the battery connection could be a little loose. I'd pull the battery cables off and clean them, make sure they're tight, and see how it does. Then maybe mess with the ignition switch.

Re: The Z is dead!! HELP!
Doesn't matter. Stuff will still work, but when the starter goes to pull the juice it does, it will pop, and not turn the motor over. Once you release the key, all the lights and everything kick back on. The windows or bottle heater don't draw near the amperage the starter does. It takes like 3 seconds to check, might as well check it.
