Z-28 having problems at start up
Z-28 having problems at start up
I have a 97 Z-28 Camaro, and when I start the car with a cold engine, it is very difficult to get started. It will turn over fine but won't start. I have to bump the ignition a couple of times before it actually will fire up for me. When I start the car and the engine is still up to temperature, however, it will start up the first time I roll the key over. As soon as it cools back off and the temperature is back below the 160* line, I have a hard time getting it started back up. At first, it didn't take much playing to get it started, but it's been getting progressively worse over time. What do you think my problem could be? Thanks, Alan.

Sometimes my car does the same thing though not very bad. Here is my thread on it.

I will be checking the fuel pressure tomorrow and will update then.

Re: Z-28 having problems at start up
It's probably actually due for plugs and wires, which is going to be done soon. I bought the car at 108,000 miles and the last owner didn't say anything about doing them. To my knowledge, the opti hasn't been replaced. I haven't checked my fuel pressure so I really couldn't tell you that info. I will check it out today hopefully and let you know. Thankfully I have another Camaro to drive while this one is having issues. Thanks for your help so far guys, and hopefully I'll be able to provide you a little more information.
I forgot to mention, and it may help...I don't have any problems at all with the car stuttering or trying to cut off. The only thing I can offer as far as that goes is that if I get hard in the gas while the car is cold, it lags just for a second and then picks up...but other than that, no sputtering or cut off ever.
