Yet Another "What Gaskets/Seals Are Needed" Thread....

Hey guys,

I just figure i mind as well get a head start or to see if anyone had complied a list of gaskets that they found were needed with/without part numbers....

This is what the parts that'll be installed (theoritcally) so u can see what is needed.

It'll be Heads, hot cam kit, 95+ opti conversion, Comp lifters, pushrods/guideplates, ARP bolts etc , newer stock water pump etc...

So help me modify or add or delete from the list i already have:

Intake Manifold Gasket Kit (Fel-pro): Includes what exactly? EGR/TB right? Does this include the 2- Intake Manifold Gaskets that are needed?

Timing Cover gasket, Valve Cover gasket, Opti Timing cover seal, Crankshaft Timing Cover Seal, Impala or LT4 Head Gaskets, WP gasket.

What should be needed as well? also what are the quantities and then the best brand (GM or aftermarket) and then the best price/place to get them. I know Jason is for GM stuff.

Thanks guys...

I got:

>Felpro intake gaskets, includes intake gaskets, egr, and TB (~$16))
>GM Exhaust Gaskets (ive heard they are the best, cheap too)(~$6/ea)
>Impala/Caprice head gaskets (12553160) (again lots cheaper than felpro at least, improve your quench/comp a little)($42 both)
>Felpro Timing kit, includes WP gaskets, WP seal, Crank seal (~$7 weird, bought it at murrays was supposed to be their brand but ended up being Felpro, Id try doing that if I were you, cheaper than felpro)
>GM Opti Seal (~$2)
>Felpro valve cover gaskets, rubber (~$12)
>Id pick up the two banjo bolts from GM that go in the coolant steam bypass tube that connects the two heads, they redesigned the bolts with deeper heads, you will probably strip them taking them off, my suggestion is to leave the tube on there and pull the heads off as one, then spray lots of PB blaster on the bolts and heat the head up to get them out, cuz if you strip them you are F'd (~$2/ea)
>ARP head bolts, JEGS part #070-134-3601 ($39.99)
>ARP header bolts #070-100-1101 (unless you want Stage 8)($13.99)

I think that covers all the gaskets/seals needed, post a reply if you want the part #s i can probably find them for ya

Oh and dont forget a new GM timing chain, I wouldnt worry about the LT4 since you wont have too much lift on the valves

Youll probly need two tubes of black RTV

Also do the oil pan, its a bitch, but you will tear the gasket taking the timing cover off, and a tip, put the timing cover back on, then put the oil pan on, much much easier, i learned this the hard way. Just get the other brand at Autozone, not felpro, i think its engine seal or something, funny thing is that felpro makes them, but its in a different box, and $10 cheaper, if you look at the address on the box it is felpro inc.

Thanks a lot man!

i knew someone out there had to have a list that they used for their swap ya know?

So thats all i'll need huh? Not to bad then. I have like a bunch of stores to go to, are they generally all similar in prices? Advanced, Pep Boys, Murrays, AutoZone...

so basically, i'll only need to get from "GM" are Impala head gaskests and the GM opti seal and GM exhuast gaskets, banjo bolts and the rest fel-pro are good...

Yep, i have the stage 8's already and the ARP head bolts as well.

Well autozone is the only place that sells felpro around here, napa and murrays dont, not sure bout the others. And i just noticed you are doing a vented opti swap, search the forum for vented opti swap cuz Im not sure what you need to do that.
But yeah, that is everything I bought.

Shoebox told me in one of my posts recently that I should have replaced the cam and water pump gears with the timing chain, its not completely necessary, just one of those "while your at it" things.

And if your doing headers and roller rockers, add an LT4 knock module to the list, just incase, dont want no timing retard from the sensitive stocker.

10206039 is the cam gear and its about $25, so Id say the water pump gear is like $10 since its 1/4 of the size of the cam gear, couldnt find the part # on it though.
