Yet another Engine removal Question

I am about to drop my Engine. I have access to a Lift and every hand tool and Air Tool there is. I have never done this before but I have a Mechanic that will be helping me. My question is if I drop the motor will I be able to then lift the motor with the Cherry Picker and unbolt all of the suspension stuff from the bottom of the engine and then bolt it back up to the car so it can be Mobil. I am going to do it in a shop but I only have 1 day to do it and everything has to be gone the next day. I also have a wrecker so I can transport everything. Let me know Experts ; )

if u have the tools, i hear from the bottom is easier. but you will run into a lot of stubborn brake lines and stripped bolts. i did mine from the top with the trans connected. i liked it that way.

Yeah, you would be able to pluck the engine out of the k-member and then put the k-member back under the car if you wanted. You would have to reconnect the steering shaft and brake lines if you needed them.

Re: Yet another Engine removal Question

I've always done them from the top, but a few days ago I used a lift and took my engine/trans out and it was very easy and quick.

I just left the tires on the k-member and used the jack supporting it to push it so the engine was under the lift arm then strapped the eng to the arm and lifted the car higher till the eng was free and put it on a cart. Watch the brake lines and wires though its easy to miss one or have it snag when lifting.

Well do you guys think it might be easier just to get a happy hooker from TPIS and pull it from the top. That way I don't have to put all of the cross member stuff back up. I have to transport the car and engine to my house from the shop.

Re: Yet another Engine removal Question

I just pulled mine out from the bottom in my driveway without a lift. Since you have a lift, do it that way. I wouldn't think twice about it. Now that I have easily done it throught the bottom, I see no reason for me to go through the top. That 40 bucks you spend on the happy hooker, could be used for an oil pan gasket.

Re: Yet another Engine removal Question

Dropped mine out w/o a lift, then used a comealong to lift the engine and unbolt the engine and put the k-member back on the car to roll it out of our garage, then rolled the next one in and repeated. So yes, it can be done. (And I thought it was easy never having done one on these cars before).
