[edit] I've got 236000 miles on mine, and never been inside the engine. What you have is a opti problem, and yes they do suck. Cars weakest link. Car has also been my daily driver since September 1st 1994.

Everyone on here slams the factory opti's. I have 168,000 on mine and my friends caprice has 180,000. So I guess I'm lucky. But I bet if this guy takes his car to gm for this current problem he is having, and can't figure out. They will point at the msd unit and flag it.(Of course they will wan't to sell him a $400+ factory opti, ouch!)

try the allternator wire that goes from the battery to the battery. thats what happened to my lt1 and if your battery keeps running out of juice its giong to be that or the alternaoter altogether

I agree my car had about 105k on it when i replaced mine. It wasn't even giving me any trouble but i drove 120miles to school and i didn't want to have a failure and get stuck. I've had my current one on for about 55k and still no problems. The only real problem i've ever seen is that my buddy had his rotor come apart once when he was getting on his Heads and Cam car. I personally wash my engine bay at car washes and never an opti problem. I just don't spray it directly, the GM unit is pretty good so i don't know why people bitch.
To the original poster if you're spraying starting fluid in the intake and the car won't at least run for a few seconds then it sounds like you have a spark issue. If it ran for a few seconds then died then i'd look at a fuel issue.

IMO... I think the alternator took a dump on you. It's not give the car enough juice to run right.
