Yay, another recommend-me-a-cam thread!

OK, my engine is apart right now so I can freshen it up and put a cam in it. I was thinking the CC503, but I want to be sure I get something optimal for my combo.

Heads:
-milled, compression upped to 10.7:1
-very mild port & polish.. not flow benched or anything
-3 angle valve job
-Crane SA 1.6 rockers
-screw-in ARP rocker studs

Exhaust (not purchased yet but it should be as follows):
-Pacesetter longtubes
-ORY
-Spintech catback

Intake:
-Lingenfelter cold air
-stock throttle body & manifold

Also have 4.10 gears in the rear end and it's a 6 speed...

So, looking for ideas on a recommended cam & spring combo, and maybe lifters too. It does have Comp hardened pushrods in it too.

Where in WI are you, maybe I could arrange for you to check out a few cammed cars to give you some sort of reference point?

Getting to check out a few cars would be better research than asking here.

Looks good. If you want good drivability, stock-like idle, good low end then you are looking a smallish cam. Whatever cam you choose the spec card will give you recommended springs and pressures.

I have 97SS with the 227 cam and 410 rear. Mildly ported heads, SLP shorties and a gauze type air filter. Also have a 52MM TB, but don't believe it is necessary along with a PCMFORLESS tune.

Haven't dyoed or tracked it, but it's no slouch. I went with the 227 because it is easy to tune and is designed mainly as an RV cam, i.e, it works well with heavy vehicles. The Lt1 is not exactly a light car in stock form and I have seen some pretty good times and power from this cam.

I belive you are on the right track. JMHO

Which cam are you referring to? Also, I would actually like something with a fairly lopey idle. I know it might not be the most optimal thing sometimes, but it's worth the sound and "presence" that it would give the car, and I've always wanted to own a V8 car with a mean idle.

Can you get a 227 on a 110LSA? That would give it a little chop.

if you have the stock bottom end and want to take it easy on it don't look for a big cam. if you want lope just get an off the shelf cam ground on a tighter lsa.

personally, just for the ease of it, I'd go with a cc503. they drive pretty well, have a good sound to them, and perform well.

if you're looking for optimal, get a custom cam.

Do you know Kory by chance?

He has a new heads and cam setup to replace a junk one he had and lives just a few minutes from you.

I sent him a PM with a link to this thread, hopefully he can let you check out his setup.

I just got my 503 LT1 running and I'm very happy with it thus far. This is what it idles like on mine.

If you wanted more lope you can get the 503 on 110lsa.

gm 846, xe 224/230, cc305, lpe 219/219, crane 227, xfi 214/224(not sure exactly) le1 or ai equivlant, all of these are mid range, medium sized cams.
If you search around and look in peoples sigs you will find plently of track times and dyno numbers. If i were you and the heads are not on the car yet get em flowed and than have a custom ground. It will best for your setup as far as driveability and power.
Ai and le, Bret Bauer, Joe overton, just to name a few people to contact.
