Y-pipe install???

Ok, got car back from mechanic today, had em do a diagnostics on it after oil change. Showed that catalytic converter is clogged. Bought car last Wednesday, inspection has been out since 08'. Do I spend money on new converter to get tags, then turn around and spend money on having off-road y pipe put in? Or go straight to y-pipe and hope it passes inspection? Also where is best place to find an off-road y-pipe that'll fit up to stock exhaust manifolds. Be couple months till can get headers put in. Im in Texas, not sure if all places do emissions sniffing.. Has a cat back Corsa exhaust upgrade.

I've got the Random Technology Dual Cat Y-Pipe

There's also: Stainless Works Dual Cat Y-pipe

Either of those should allow you to pass emissions, and provide increased power. The Random Tech Pipe bolted up without issue, and I've had no issues with it in over 10 years (although only 35K miles).

The Stainless Works piece does look like a better option now, as it's 304 Stainless vs. Aluminized and about the same price.

Well, we pulled the cat that was blocked up. Gutted it and put er back on. All the O2 sensors are reading good now. And she is a bit better sounding as well.

Re: Y-pipe install???

Odd.... because without a cat the after cat O2 sensor should be be setting a code.

Are you saying you have a functional cat in one bank of the exhaust, and an empty cat shell on the other? Do you think that migh unbalance the banks of the engine?
