Y-pipe hitting floorboard...suggestions?
Y-pipe hitting floorboard...suggestions?
On the driver side, it hits that spot where the floor comes down in front of it. I banged it in, but it still hits when the motor torques.....anything I can stick in there? Or do I have to take it to an exhaust shop?
I wouldnt take it to the exhaust shop, unless there is absolutely nothing left to do besides mess with the pipe! Mine is hitting the frame right in the middle of the y-pipe. when ever my starter decides to go, and the y-pie must come off im gonna gring back the frame a little. try giving yours a little more clearance. if that doesnt help, run open maifolds !! hahahaha j/k
.
you dont think a heater hose will melt if it is on the y-pipe?
I wraped mine with leather and ended up burning, i finally just stuck a pice a meatel there but now i get a bad vibration inside the car, but it isnt that meatel on meatl sound anymore

Check your motor mounts guys... If the mounts are worn/bad it will let the engine twist farther and might let it bump.
Have you ground down on the tranny crossmember lip any yet? Most people (including myself) have to grind part of the lip way.
What brand of y-pipe is it? My Mufflex y-pipe has two slip fit joints on the driver's side of the y to allow adjustment of that section. Mine is tilted slightly downward away from the car.

It's not hitting that...it's hitting where the floorboard comes down and across right after the collector. It's a Pacesetter Y-pipe. I'm going to try the header wrap idea.....now if I could just stop the leaks on the slip fits...
y pipe hitting
For a temporary fix loosen the bolts on the transmission cross member and put some shims in between it and the frame. You can use 4 or 5 washers on each bolt. That will bring the back of the trans down, bringing the engine and headers with it. It just might give you the clearance you need.
I just installed these headers myself but I made my own y-pipe with bolt up flanges.
