Y pipe hitting floor board !
Y pipe hitting floor board !
I Installed Lt pacesetter headers a while back and have had a y pipe clearence issue with it hitting when under excelleration. I have been doing some searching and found out that my motor mounts might be old and sagging causing them to let the motor twist and cause the Y pipe to hit the floor board.
I went to autozone to get some poly monts and they only carry one side in stock.!
Can anyone tell me why they would only carry one side? Will replacing the one side fix my floor banging ?
Any help would be great

Re: Y pipe hitting floor board !
Are you positive that its the Y pipe hitting? I have plenty of room on my Y pipe. Under hard acceleration mine does make banging noises, but its the primary that runs along side the steering shaft. There is a little mark on the headers from where it hits. It hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it but some people will take a hammer and just tap on the primary to give a real small bend or indent so it clears.

Re: Y pipe hitting floor board !
I had a similar problem with the ypipe hitting the floorboard in the back right before it bends up over the axle. I took some header wrap and wrapped up the pipe where it banged and used that to "wedge" the ypipe and the floorboard tight, and I used muffler bands to secure the header wrap. Result, no more banging
Re: Y pipe hitting floor board !
My Y pipe fit very tight on the drivers side where the pipe meets the collector. When I got my Y pipe before installation I was like "what the heck is that rectagular smash part there for."
When I went to install it, it was pretty clear why that was there.
I actually temporarily fixed the banging noise a while ago with some heater hose straped between the y pipe and that dang brace that is right in the way. I am just trying to find a fix for it instead of a band aid , you know.
I asked Autozone about the ES motor mounts. They told me that the one side that they carry wares out faster than the other side, that they have to special order. It still doesn't make sence why someone would only replace one side??? I went ahead and odered the other side and bought the one they carry in stock. Guess I will install the one side this weekend and install the the other next weekend. Hopefully the one side will help for now.

This drove me nuts for 6 months to the point where I actually took the header off and dented in the floorboard with a bottle jack. It was definitely worth it

Re: Y pipe hitting floor board !
I too am having the same problem. I just got some poly mounts and hopefully will get them on soon. I will keep you guys posted to see if it actually fixes the problem.
Re: Y pipe hitting floor board !
Hey thanks for the replys guys it rained today so i couldn't install the motor mount today. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorow. Great idea about denting the floor board with a jack. If the mounts don't help I will be giving that a try.
Re: Y pipe hitting floor board !
This post is super old I know, I know. I put this install off for a long time. LOL . This weekend I finally got around to doing them. Well with Long tubes on it was a bit of a pain in the A$$. After screwing with them all day I was about to break something. At that point its best to call it a day. My dad was nice enough to let me leave it in his garage for the night.
The next day went alot better thanks to my dads air rachet
The old mounts were definitly worn out. I started her up and reved it and the motor didn't torque like it used to. I am going to take my heater hose rubbing solution off and see if it is solved. Either way I am better off having changed them. Now I can add another PITA job to my list of fun car projects
Anyway just thought I would follow up on my old post.
For the love of the camaro!!
