someone else mentioned sylvania and their line of "cool blue" lights. go one step higher and you'll find their "silverstar" line of hdlts. For 93-97 Firebirds check out part #H4666ST. It gives a whiter, brighter light and is DOT legal but won't take extra power to light them so no worries about burning up your hdlt. harnesses.

Leave the "cool blue" crap to the ricer crowd. Stick with "REAL" lighting...... slightly advanced for the 21 century.

Will the 2-headlight system here fit? Its been a while since I had a Firebird but I thought the standard sized 2-headlight system fit it. The Camaros have the crappy mini (as in no one makes GOOD replacements) quad system. Hella makes one heck of a nice headlight/fog light/driving light system if you stay away from the Optilux lights. They look cool but aren't as well designed for actual lighting use as the regular Hellas.

I have just put on 90mm projector conversion (quad round) and ordered a pair of FF50 oval fog lights (with stone shields) to replace the crappy GM fog lights.

I swear by this company 'cause I'm very **** about seeing at night with good lights. I've seen the headlights for around $40-50 bucks each online and you can upgrade the bulbs to what you want. The lenses will put the light where its most usable. The initial outlay is more than some might like but its a lot cheaper than HID!

z28nut, are you referring to part #72207 on hella's website? That light won't work in a 93-97 firebird. It is physically larger than the stk. lights used in our cars.

The Hella light is a 6054 trade # whereas firebirds use a 4666 trade # hdlt. The 6054 is more square vs. the retangular size of the 4666 lights.

Thanks for the correction, Cman. I replaced my lights once in the Firebird but its been so long ago it's all fuzzy. Don't even remember what brand I used.

I wonder if a pair of Hella 120mm projectors could be fit into the pop-up shells. With my 90mm Hellas, I haven't had to use my brights, even on the freeway. I won't run with brights if I can see taillights or headlights in the distance, anyway. Maybe a pair of 120 or 90mm lows in the pop-ups and a pair of driving lights in the nose for brights?

No idea how anything would fit, I'm just speculating here.

I'm picking up a set of the silverstar hdlts. for my Formula. I've had them on order for the last 2 weeks and they should come in later this week sometime.

I tried out a set of the bulbs in my daily driver and was impressed with the lighting so the Formula will get a set of the 4666ST and we'll see how they work.

I'll post here on what the answer is to these hdlts. once I get my hands on them and get them in.

It all depends on how much you want to spend and how much work you want to do. I spent about $300 on the lights and all of the other parts I needed and it took me a full week of evenings to get it done. It's also non-reversible unlike Sam95zNoTop's conversion. His write up is here:

http://bellsouthpwp.net/m/u/mulgeary/Hella90/index.htm

Sam gave me the cheapest place to order from, too:

www.rallylights.com

Go there an do a search for Hella 90mm projectors.

They are the best lights I have ever used. I also replaced the stock fog lights with Hella FF50 fogs and I can cruise around town after dark with just markers and fogs on and still see better than the original headlights. With the projectors on, it's soooo much better than the stockers. They are also DOT approved as legal headlights, which the Hella FF75 conversion is not. The FF75's look pretty darn good if you don't like the roundness of the 90mm's.

Hope this helps.

Just a reminder for anyone who doesn't know:

Anytime you install a part on your car that will/may use more juice, a relay will CYA almost all the time.

Relays are a lot cheaper than a fire. This will allow you to run those higher watt lights without fear of burninating your wires.

!RELAY... the burninator mod!

Anyway, what kinda relay should I use, and where would I tie it into the existing wiring system? I really like the Hella 90mm driving lamp's with the stock high beam look. Too bad the 120mm's wouldn't fit in the high beam location.

Thanks!

Well, in my situations I use $5 relays from Radio Shack.

And my situations were installing hipo Hellas and the such on my Jeep.

Most cases a relay is a relay is a relay. It's been awhile since I threw down relays, so let me look in my emails and my old website to get you a basic wiring diagram. It'll give you the basic idea of it.

Instead of the wires melting, the relay just breaks. Really simple to use, install (anywhere you want on the car, multiple uses), and replace.

Let me look. I'll get back to you tomorrow. Shoot me an email about mid-day to remind me.
