Xenon Headlights for 4th Gen??

Are their Xenon Headlights for 93-97 Firebird????

a guy told me today at autozone they had a conversion for some kind of 'super' headlight. then i reminded him i had a ta not a camaro and he dropped the conversation. so im pretty sure they do

autoOptkis sells the housings already worked. Many people dont like them, but i love mine. SilverStar bulbs are the only ones worth buying IMO.

atljar... what don't people like about them... i went to the site... didn't work too well... what kinda difference did it make for your lights?????

Thats for a Camaro not a firebird...
Do you know if the newer birds have brighter headlights than the older ones like mine? And can the bulbs be interchanged?

i had a 99 and now i have a 95, i can't remember the lights being any better on the 99, i think the lights were really small not interchangable

About 5 years ago I purchased a set of "Wagner Brite Lights" that was a direct replacement light for my 94 Formula. These were Xenon filled glass bulbs. After the installation I did see a big improvement over stock. I purchased my set from a NAPA in Maine but I don't know if they still make them. This is what I bought:

Wagner Brite Lights

I don't know where you can get them now though.

Those housing SUCK. Actually, everything about that company sucks IMO. I bought a set a couple years ago; housings, wiring harness, and bulbs. Let's see:
- Bulbs lasted a couple months then died. Replace and repeat, until I learned not to use what they sell.

- Wiring harness = fire hazard. Damn thing started melting itself until it finally shorted out. Ended up making my own, and magically, never had a single problem since.

- Housings are 100% junk. Very poor quality reflectors, doesn't seal very well, cheap glass. I finally yanked them when I had the glass crack on me while washing the car.

I then went to some other place anolther board member suggested (can't even recall who it was). Another sealed beam kit. I used the "best" bulbs this place had, and new sealed beams; I believe Valeo made them (same place that makes the LT1 pressure plates). Junk; these 90/100 watt bulbs are dimmer than stock. I have ANOTHER set of bulbs I need to try tossing in there (the bulbs I was finally using w/ my Auto Optiks setup) that I hope will be a little better. Regardless, a few hundred dollars later, I'm still stuck with crappy headlights.

I say if anyone wants to do this type of conversion, follow the instructions of taking your sealed beam headlight and converting it to hold H4's, and make your own harness. It will cost you far less, and probably give better results. I may end up going that route as well and selling my sealed beams!

The HID4LESS system that you are looking at is $700 which is a little steep for me. I did some surfing on this topic and Sylavania makes Direct replacement sealed beams in 3 flavors, one of which is the Cool Blue:

Bulbs claiming that they are filled with xenon gas or that they are the closest thing to HID are not. They are just simply HALOGEN bulbs. Most of these bulbs have some type of blue coating on the exterior glass. When you tint any type of bulb, you effectively are filtering light, and simply decreasing the light output. Other bulbs that simply increase the wattage in order to gain lumens output also highly increase your chances of causing MAJOR damage to your car's electrical system. Putting a higher wattage bulb in your car overloads your car's wiring which was not designed for that type of load.

In addition, many of the "fake xenon" bulbs have a much shorter life span, some that are as low as 10 percent of OEM Halogen bulbs. Real xenon systems typically have an hour life of about 4000 hours.

HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. The term xenon comes from the type of gas that is found inside the bulb.

The HID system consists of:
2 Xenon bulbs
2 Electronic Control Units (Ballasts)
Plug and Play Wiring Harness

If you're going to do it, do it right. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not saying that the Wagner Brite Lights I installed approached HID performance but they did provide a noticable improvement over the stock sealed beams. They state that they are Xenon filled bulbs and mine have lasted about 5 years without a problem.

I was not trying to flame anyone but IMHO I think you can get a reasonable improvement in your headlight performance for under $100 by installing a set of aftermarket sealed beams. Its not hard to improve on the OEM plastic halogen units.

I beleive that if you want the ultimate in headlight performance, 350SS is right, you will need to step up to an HID system. Its just that with my budget priorities, I would rather spend that kind of money on go fast parts.

Werd. But, you forgot the housing with the HID's, that plays a BIG role in how light is dispearsed.
