xe230/236 cam would this work for me....?
xe230/236 cam would this work for me....?If not suggestions.
My mods are in the sig. The specs of the cam are as follows:
Comp custom grind xe230/236 cam for an LT1. Specs on the cam are 230/236 duration, .544/.555 lift with a 1.6 rocker, 110 LSA. What elso would I ham to change on the car IE rockers and such?
I'd like the car the be streetable obviosly but it will go to the track.
Almost forgot I will also be using a hughes 2500 stall convertor.
If this isn't the ideal set up please help me out. I'm not real knowledgable about cams yet but know I want the power!
Thanks
Adam

Seems like a good setup, my buddie has that cam on a 112lsa running with stock heads, we also ran stock rockers for a while but I wouldn't recommend it, he switched to Crane Golds, car run strong & drives like stock. That can't be said about my setup, lol.
ive got that same cam, but you cannot run stock rockers on it, you have to use larger valve springs, the stock rockers will not clear the larger springs. if you have it running on smaller springs, beware...it wont run for long...the cam is streetable with the right tune, but then again, i have ported heads...i love it though, had i known it was this streetable, ide have gone bigger...probably cc306...i run the crane dual coil springs, 3/8 studs, hardened pushrods, and 1.6 pro mag RR's...and even those RR barely clear the springs
Thats about the setup I'm going for. My car is pretty much stock. Just headers and the thermostat. So it's basically like yours. My 230/236 is a 112lsa though. I'ma prolly go ahead and pull the heads off and do a valve job and a little home porting while they are off. Car has 90k on it so I figured a valve job wouldn't hurt. I might also take it to get the seats ground to take a dual valve spring. Im not looking for the most hp out of it, just a little more and still be streetable.
Ya thats a pretty big cam, its not going to drive like stock, you'll have some cam surge-which is like your car stumbling and shaking, it will be noticable at low RPMs. With a good tune you might not get any or maybe just very little. Remember the lower the LSA the higher up the powerband will be. So getting a 110 LSA may net you a few more ponies on top but less on the bottom, which makes the throttle a little soggy at low rpms, a 112 might be a better choice, depending on how much you drive the car. I drive mine everyday and would probably get the 112. My cam is on stock tuning and has a 114 LSA and does have some cam surge. It sucks in parking lots cause going only 5-10 mph causes surges. Still even with your cam you get use to the feel of it and learn to avoid its tantrums. Also my gas mileage suffered the greatest loss after installing the cam, my stock tuning doesn't help, but this should be a concern if you drive everyday with gas being so much now. I run the same lift numbers as that cam and use the combination motorsports 600 inch lift springs, they work great, they are single coil.
I've read that some people claim their cam hasn't effected mpg much if at all.
