xe224/230 or cc306

Did a search and it seems like the ex224/230 cam has a flat power band with lots of bottom end torque.I have an M6 with 4.10 gears which means traction is always a problem on street tire at least. I like the cc306 but I have read you have to really rev it to get into it's powerband and I really don't want to rev past 6200 with the stock bottom end with 100,000 miles on it. Can you guys comfirm this and offer any feedback or suggest another cam. I will be porting the heads myself.

Thanks!
Rob.

go to the 224/230 the other is very big, some feel its not, just depends on your definition of streetable. To me having low end is important, the big one you will get sick of, the idle, smell, and no gas mileage will drive you nuts after some time. Also consider what your ultimate goals are, if you plan on mid 11's then the cc306 is the way to go, otherwise I would'nt as the other cam is very potent. Yes the powerband is raised real high, instead of feeling the pullback at 2000 RPM your gonna have to wait to at least 3000, if not more. My cam starts around 3 grand and then really pulls at 4000. For the street reving real high kinda sucks, if your into doing this then go with a bigger cam. I heard many people say the cc306 doesnt stop just keeps on going past 6500-6700 RPM, to give you an idea. Plus your brakes will be crappy. I was at the track where to guys running the hotcam in the Impallas where running 12s, the one guy had shorty headers, stock heads, and stock exhaust except muffler, not bad for a vehicle that weights over 2 tons. So obviously you don't need to go big to get good power. Theres nothing like having a large cam, I run plenty of them, but for a daily driver, it loses its flair after awhile. So you must weight all these factors before deciding

I agree with what James D said. I have the XE230/236 cam, and it's about as big as I would go in a daily driver (with ported heads). The powerband is like 3000-6500, and I've never even been to the top yet. The CC306 bahaves even bigger than my cam. The 224/230 would make a better daily driver cam. The broad torque curve will make it very fun to drive. If you're having traction problems, maybe you should look into better tires or something. I'm still hooking up on the street with Firestone Firehawks (255/50/16).

It took me many a thread read to figure out that the 224/230 was the cam for me. Car used just for cruising around on weekends and such and want it to be fun without reving the hell out of it.

I like the 306, but my car isn't a daily driver. If I had some good heads on the car it would be a beast (89 mph in the 1/8 mile). The gas mileage is great just as long as you have a good tune. I am getting 23-24 mpg on the highway cruising at 75 with the 4.10 gears. The idle sounds very good, but it does smell. But then it depends on what you want out of the car.

Mikey do you have any dyno #'s or 1/4 mile times on your setup. also how does it sound? As far as traction goes MT ET Streets don't last very long driving them on the street LOL
Can you give me a list of the components you are using? I want just drop in springs so I don't have to do any maching.

Thanks guys for the replies.

People that bash CC306 never had it in their car with proper gears or tunning. Its all BS that car is not streetable with it, or that it doesnt make any low end torque or that u have to rev it to 7k to get any decent power or even about the gas millage...my car gets 220 around the city with 4.11 gears and CC306.
It seems like bunch of u need to make bunch of false claims about the bigger cams cause you decided to pick a little cam that make ****y power.

My friend dynoed 353/342 with a CC306 and stock heads. My car is little bit faster then his so i am guesin i am in 360+ rwhp range. Thats with stock heads, and engine that has 97k miles on it

umm i dont see how that would happen
I see how a big cam could effect brake feel, but 1.6 RRs I would call again and maybe talk to a different guy

i am using the Crane kit 10308...Dual coil springs good up to .600 lift. They go right in, no modifications to anyting. Comp CAM Pro MAgnum 1.6 RRs, Comp R Lifters, umm thats about it.

I shift at around 6500, my rev limiter is set at 6700.]
