X-pipe vs H-pipe..
X-pipe vs H-pipe..
I'm about to have different mufflers put in my exhuast because its too raspy (echoes bad under part throttle). I'm going from the bullets to the ultra-flo welded (17218) but im curious if a balancer pipe might help to get rid of the rasp as well, and if it would which is better for doing that or better sound overall? simply i want to know which is the better sounding.. duals with no balancer, or duals with an h or x pipe and which one. also im wandering about the performance difference of the three.
Re: X-pipe vs H-pipe..
X = better performance across the powerband for the most part
H = better sounding, maybe a few hp loss towards the top end
I would go for an H since both are probably better than the stock Y pipe configuration

Re: X-pipe vs H-pipe..
ok guys thanks for the info, i think im gona go with an H, but ill probly have to use an X because of how close together the pipes are.
and to answer the question about my exhuast, its true duals run off the stock manifolds. it runs all the way to where the y-pipe would be and instead of joining keeps running down to the back. its all 2.5in. over the axle in the stock location, with 2 12in. bullets. its about to be changed to an x-pipe setup with ultra-flo welded 14" mufflers. can anyone tell me the difference in sound between these two??? im almost worried i wont like it, i wanna hear it with the X-pipe and bullets and then put the others on if i dont like it, but i cant be there while they do it and cant leave the car 2 days.

Re: X-pipe vs H-pipe..
i dont have any clips.. but under part throttle.. does a harley ring any bells? its just a loud series of echoes that you can hear bouncing off everyhting around you (probly 1/2 throttle) i HATE it, i love the rumble it makes sometimes but it only does it at VERY light throttle (less than 1/4)

I never had a setup I liked the sound of until I got longtubes.
Awesome at idle, almost silent at cruising speeds, not bullet loud, but pretty loud up top and it keeps a deep throaty sound all the way through the band. It is a deep sound.
As far as harleys go everyone I have pulled up next to my car sounded better. More lope.
With the 40s, my cam, and a 600rpm idle, she sounds almost perfect.

also i have another question to add to this thread. Ive seen X-pipes that intersect and X-pipes that just seem to merge together and back apart. Whats the difference between the two, if any?
