X-pipe H-pipe Crossover on True Duals Why???

I can't really get a straight answer on this. Why is it nessessary to have any cross over pipe on a true dual and which one truly performs the best including not having one at all. I would think that the less turbulence the better. Can some one truly explain why a crossover pipe performs better?

I think it's suppose to help even out the exhaust pulses.

The pulse and sound waves help even each other out and reduce turbulence and noise and increase power.
Sort of like filling in the pulse on one side then the other to make it smoother.

I'm sorry I did not quite understand that last statement if sound did not matter would it not be better to just dump the exhaust on both sides through a muffler

Exhaust flows out in pulses, not a steady stream. Having both sides of your exhaust connected evens out the pulses, and keep the exhaust gases moving, so they don't loose velocity. If the two sides weren't connected, the pulsation of the gases would hinder exhaust flow.

its basically to equalize the pressure in each pipe so you dont get that awful "popping" noise our cars are so famous for

Okay I understand what nat is saying and I know there is an advantage but is it advantage enough that I should spend an extra 100.00 for at x-pipe?

From a performance standpoint, its definitely worth it. When I talked to the shop about my setup, they told me that they could make me an x-pipe for cheaper than the $90-100 ones in Summit or whatever. You can see some pics of my custom x-pipe and true dual setup in this thread HERE Hope this helps.

One of your local muffler shops should be able to
make and "x" pipe for you. I would definately say
to go with it. I have a different type of crossover,
but it works and was made by the local muffler
shop. It's just a window between the two pipes.

Okay I have a hooker y-pipe I bought for 250.00 is there anyway to incoproate that to a true dual with possibly another inverted ypipe to slip into two again or should I just try to sell the y-pipe?

Just sell the y-pipe. The only reason a person would use a y-pipe is to convert to a single exhaust. Trying to rig it would be more expensive and totally kill your performance. Just get rid of it and fab a true dual setup.

Here is an old post with a video. I have since removed the
flowmaster 10 series mufflers and gone with an Ultraflow.

The Ultraflow is shown in the following picture.
