Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
I went to Summit to get some Comp Cam hardened pushrods for my 1.6 RR install. I thought I had the right part number 7808-16, but he said they were listed for non-LT1 cars.
I got him to look up the length which is 7.195. I have since found that the 7808-16's at Thunder are 7.200.
Will these still work and if so do I have to do anything special to accomodate them? I bought them anyways, but can return them.
My setup is going to be 1.6 Pro Mags NSA 7/16 with GM guideplates and ARP 7/16 studs and hopefully these pushrods on a stock cam and lifters. Thanks.

Re: Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
Well until I do a heads and cam will they hold me over? I was pretty sure my stockers are hardened, but wanted the extra insurance with the guideplates until I did a H/C package.
Thanks SS, funny thing is they are the same part number and Summit said they are specifically not for LT1's. They guy almost wouldnt let me buy them. It's listed in the computer as "Do not sell for use in LT1's"
Do you think they are the same thing just listed 5 thousandths off?

I don't see a huge issue with them in a LT1 over another HR SBC.

Re: Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
Thats my plan, doing a bit beefier pushrods and R lifters when the cam goes in. But until then I think I'll be ok, just looking for some extra power without opening her up too much. Thanks again.
I'd still like to know what they are listed under the same part number with different listed lengths. I'll have to call Comp Cams tomorrow and ask.

Re: Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
I hope it doesnt make a difference. The main consensus is that it wont matter and the part numbers match up so I just think that someone has been rounding it up or something. I'll call Lloyd tomorrow for additional verification. The only thing that bugs me is I find conflicting stock pushrod lengths in my searches.

Re: Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
These are the correct length pushrods, I've ordered 3 sets for friends LT1's and 2 of the 3 are working, the third set is all bent (he over reved it in the burnout). Far as I know comp has pushrods in the 0.05" incremint, so you'll get ...7.15, 7.2, 7.25....
Re: Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
Geometry, Geometry, Geometry: If in doubt, get an adjustable push rod and determine the exact length needed. Possible cause of my valve train going to hell having bought +.050 push rods, i.e., 7.250s instead of stock length.
No one, not even mechanic advised me to go with the proven length.
Advise that you do so or face the consequences. JMHO

Re: Wrong Comp Cam Pushrods?
Those are the pushrods that I used as well. They are the stock 7.200" length, and correct for the application. After installing them, I looked to see if the rocker tip was centered on the valve tip, and everything lined up good from closed valve all the way to open valve.
It's funny though, because when I took my old pushrods out and stood them up next to the 7808-16's, the Comp Pushrods were slightly longer, maybe 0.025". After looking at the stock pushrods, it looked like the difference in height was just due to the end of the stock pushrod getting polished and a little worn after 69k miles. I have had it all back together and running with the new valvetrain for about 600 miles, and around 10 runs up to 6000 rpm and everything is great.
