Would you use this on a new opti ??

Put in a cam 4 months ago, messed up the water pump drive oil seal and I put off fixing the oil leak. Eventually got oil on the slotted wheel in the opti and it started missing and throwing hi res failure codes. I replaced the seal correctly this time. But with 73K on the opti rather than clean it up I decided to order a new delphi that is due in this week. QUESTION: Should I seal the new opti for insurance against future coolant or oil leaks. I have read about using using black or red RTV around the outer seams, or opening it up and using black gasket seal on the o-rings, and have also seen a thread about Permatex "Spray'N'Seal Leak Repair ( http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...eak_Repair.htm ) around the outside gaps. Would using a sealer void my warranty, is it really necessary with a new unit. Any comments ??

I did the exact same thing with the oil seal for the water pump drive. Luckily when I replaced the cap and rotor, I sealed my cap a thin layer of clear RTV along the top seam. Oil was getting EVERYWHERE, but the seal stayed dry.

Just don't go nuts with it.
