Need help with rebuilding LT1 engine.

I have been wanting for the last some time to rebuild my engine from an LT1 up to an LT4, I plan on rebuilding the entire engine so its all brand new. If I could get some inputs on what the best parts would be, what I all need, etc. I want to spend around $5,000 but if need be I can spend more. All help is much appreciated! Thanks

There is a guy on the Corvette Forum selling a new/never ran LT4 for $4500.

Why are you so dead set on having an LT4 when they (LT1 vs LT4) are really not all that different. If you're gonna spend the money have your LT1 stroked to a 383 or build a 355 and you're gonna make way more power than trying to piece together an LT4 and probably spend less money doing it. Just my opinion and let us know what you decide?

+1 unless your dead set on an lt4, go a different way such as a 383 or 355 like he said.
Keep in mind when your building, there is lots of small things that will sneak up on you. I had the same budget as you, and the budget is getting tight lol.
What Im building is a 383, forged internals, stock heads (for now) and a cam. With splayed 4bolt mains. Im sure you could easily build something of lesser quality for cheaper, and it still be a good running machine that is durable (and if you put money into heads, alot more power). Like I said, look at your other options though besides the lt4.

It cost me about 4 grand for everything minus the cam...brand new block, bored .030, eagle crank, forged pistons, 2 bolt mains, a little headwork, new pushrods, guideplates, springs, a little work on the intake, new lifters, etc.... Runs good (except for the now slipping transmission)

Why would you bore a brand new block?

New block, 4.00 bore, my guess is he was building a 383 and needed to bore to 4.030.

Yup, he would need to go .030 over for a 383 unless he decided to go with a 355 build up where he could keep the stock bore.

I'll mark that one up on a new thing I learned today!

Knowledge is power... right?

I thought in order to get a 355 you would still need to bore it .030 over?

I didn't think so as I thought it was accomplished by the slight stroke, but I am probably wrong.
