would you be scared to cam this car.

well i want to do a cam. but i would like some opinions on if you would do it considering the mileage of the car. i dont think i will have any problems with the car after puttting the cam in.

but heres the history of the car ive had the car since it had 32000miles on it it now has 160000 moles on it, but the oil has been changed every 3000 miles. and the filters changed. heres the reason i say it would be ok, is that the car when warm at 180 degrees runs 48 lbs oil pressure at 2000 rpms (good in my opinion) when the car idles at 180 it runs a little over 30 lbs. when the car is running at 2000 rpm at 210 degrees it run 40 lbs. at 210 idling it runs 30 lbs and this is all with 10 w 30.

the car has alway run good im still on the origanal opti. the only think i have replace is fuel pump, and intake gasket.

it runs great and acctualy runs just as good as when i got (im not talking about just as fast as when i got.) im talking about the problems it runs smooth idles good. and honestly has always been a good car.

any way heres what i want to do (over view) 236 242 on a 111 or 230 236 on a 110, ported heads (close to done) hoker longtubes, new opti, and lt4 timing chain. thats just of the top of my head.

but my question not has fast will i be. but would you cam a car with that many mile on it. looking at the oil pressure.

give your opinions and maybe some other things i should look at to make my mind up.

thanks

just rebulid the motor, or buy a used block with less miles on it

With that many miles on the bottom end, I'd be rather hesitant about of putting too much power with a big cam and heads.JMHO

Eh, dont be skeered. I just did a CC306, 1:6 rockers, mild head porting, ported intake, longtubes, 3" y-pipe and catback with a 3400 stall. Worst that can happen is it'll break, and it'll need a rebuild. So why not have fun now

My buddy put a CC306 in his car with ~ 130k on it and pulled the car to 6700 on a regular basis. The car still runs fine. It's a gamble either way...the motor may blow tomorrow, or it may last another 50k.

If you don't have the money (etc.) to build a new motor, then I wouldn't unbutton the motor you have as long as it is running well. If you have the funds to take the chance of blowing it up, I say go for it.

I did my valvetrain, cam, Cloyes, CSI, etc. @ 103k miles (1 year ago). I'm now @ 112k with no problems. Of course, I don't go to the track at all though.. With 160k on the clock, I really don't think I'd have done it. I'd be looking into at least a freshening up before adding power at this point.

Well obviously.. stuff varies, especially in the production realm. Will it work? Sure. Will it last long? Maybe.. maybe not.

Dunno, but I've got more than a few 100k+mile cars rolling over 400rw & most of them are turning 6500ish w/o issues. Of course, you're talking about another 20-40k miles

Just depends, if it were mine and the shortblock was in good condition, I'd just run the thing til it dies. Get your money's worth
