would stock springs work for cc305?

My brother finally decided to mod his 96 B4C camaro z-28, m6. He is on a limited budget, so first we got a used cc305 cam cheap and I was wondering if it's safe to install it without changing the springs. We are keeping stock rockers for right now.

I know cc 612 springs would be perfect, but they are $110 at combination motorsports, and adding seals this would go over his budget

I would highly recommend getting new springs. They may not be ABSOLUTELY necessary, but if one binds up and he trashes a valve, he'll be WAY over budget...

just my $0.02...

OK, I guess my brother will have to pospone his weekend drinking for a couple weekends and go sell more pizzas to make some money for springs

BTW, what you guys think about comp cams 612 springs, read that they are good up to 580 lift, and cost $110 with lock and retainers. Any cheaper alternative?

I have those springs and if Im not mistaken, they are good to a .600 lift. The EX-612's??? Anyways, they are about as good of a deal as I found for springs dealing with higher lift without having to machine the heads for seats. Its worth it IMO. Also, changing the valve stem seals isnt a must, its smart though, especially since you will already have the springs off.

i just bought the same cam, and here are the springs that they recommended to use for it :

www.summitracing.com -- in search for part #, type in :

CCA-983-16

They cost $69.69 , and will support that camshaft.

Still a bit -o- money, but cheaper than what you were looking at..

Yes, I was referring to EX-612-16 springs on combination motorsports, but there is no max lift number, I guess I will have to call them

Weird, I thought there would be somebody cheap enough to use stock springs with aftermarket cam, but I guess I was wrong. I though that I needed new springs for my brother, but since head porter did all the work on my car, I will still have to learn how to do it.

Where could I get valve stem seals? Whichis the best brand?

Thanks guys

If he is using the 1.5 Rocker or 1.5 Roller Rockers. He can do what I did, just get some Lt4 Spring for 35 bucks. The CC305 is rated at .510/.510 Intake and Exhaust side with 1.5 RR and the LT4 springs are rated at .525 Lift and are a lot cheaper to. They also come with everything you need too. I have been running the CC305 with 1.5R and the Lt4 springs for over 24K miles with no problems at all. I cant remember the actually website but I got mine from Scog & Dickie Performance (sp) or you may want to try Jason Cromer at http://www.samtaylor.com/html/parts.html

Its a much cheaper alternative that will work Very Well with 1.5RR.

Thx,
Claude

Claude you bring up a very valid point, the hotcam springs will work perfectly.
