Would a skinny work as a lightweight alternative to the factory spare?

As the subject says. A drag racing buddy of mine brought this up and I'm curious if it would work... nice way to cut down on weight and still be ready for a flat tire.

I know skinnies aren't high-durability wheels, but I imagine that if it can handle the weight of a car bouncing downward after a wheel-lifting launch, it should theoretically be able to take a few miles of driving to the nearest tire shop, right?

I remember reading a thread on this a while back. Theoretically it'll work, but I think the cheapest and safest way people mentioned was to run VW wheels on the front.
