Question Would an H pipe affect performance/sound that much compared to a X pipe?

I want to go to true duals but didn't realize how much it would cost to do the Xpipe. Im on a budget and I know I could do a H pipe myself much much! cheaper. So what do you think? Will it hurt performance at all? How about the sound?

have you looked at dr gas for the xpipe or anywhere else. i saw a reciept of a guy doing a true dual setup and he got both mufflers and an xpipe for less than 100 bucks. an hpipe would have 90 degree bends and restrict airflow a little more so i'd tend to lean towards the xpipe but it may not even be noticeable.

I love the sound of my x-pipe setup. Like roadrage912 said, an h-pipe uses 90 degree bends, so I don't think it would flow as well as an x-pipe, which uses 45 degree (or so) bends. I was going to buy an x-pipe from summit for about $90 which is the going rate on one of those, but the shop doing the fabrication of my duals said they would make me one cheaper than that, so they just included it in the cost of my fabrication.

I was always under the impression that the joining of the two pipes whether it was X or H pipe was to simply equalize the exhaust pulses/presures...With that being said a H pipe should accomplish the same result, and its not like the exhaust is being forced to make a 90 degree turn...it would be straight back without any turns..

that's exactly why they are joined, but how do they not have to go through the 90 degree bends?? if there is a bend in a pipe then whatever is flowing through it has to follow that bend.

Just call Summit and tell them you want a Flowtech X-pipe, they don't list them in the book. They have all sizes, I got the 2.5, but they have 3" etc...about 40 bucks.

You can see it on my website:

x makes slightly more power usually.......but h sounds better..........x tends to cause resonance.

i switched from an x to an h and im totally happy with the change. when you drive your car all day everyday.........you care more about the sound, than losing 5-10hp

I myself preferred the h-pipe over the x because I liked the sound. And im not gonna gain much at all going from an h-pipe to an x-pipe. Its basically up to the sound you want. Sure the h has sharper bends but like said above the exhaust gases are not forced to go through there. They just keep going out the 2.5 or 3in pipe. It mainly deepens the sound by filtering out the high pitchs in your exhaust soundwave. I have some sound clips in sig. X or H pipe you cant go wrong.

There was a magazine test done that my roomate had mentioned when I was going to try duals, and it cited that out of all exhaust options, even open headers and X-pipe, that the H-pipe netted the best quarter mile times. Not to mention that 1/4 mile times are what win races.

The ones in the vids are only the 12in ones. They are way loud. I now have the longest ones you can get. I forget the size.

It depends what kind of x-pipes you get. If you get an x-pipe that gets very narrow, it will restrict it a little more than one that is "Tangentially Siamesed" like the dr gas kits.
