Would this exhaust set up be possible?

I was scrolling through advanced tech and came across a thread about cut-outs...

I've been interested in getting cut-outs along with my new Jet-Hot LTs so I desided to have a look at the thread.

What I've be planning to do it have my LTs connect to a y-pipe and have two cut-outs BEFORE the y-pipe merges.. so when I open them both up I would have a true dual exhaust set up (except no mufflers.. so basicaly run it open headers)

This picture I saw in that thread is EXACTLY what I want

http://www.geocities.com/kmook123/cutouts

The cut outs flow straight back and not split off to the side.

My question/problem is... I have to have my car emissions legal.. so I need cats on.. is there any way I could run this set up or something close to it where with my cut out open.. I would be running open headers which means they would have to open BEFORE the cats. And when they are closed it runs through the cats so its comepletely emissions legal?

Thanks

Trevor

put a cat where the y-pipe merges into one, with the cutouts closed it will run through the cat. that sounds emissions friendly to me.

If the inspectors are sticklers about the visual insection, you'll still fail, otherwise, it should pass the sniffer part.

One problem you may have is if the cat would get hot enough that far back.

I was worried about that... and I was wondering if the driveshaft would cause any problems?

I was thinking.. what if I just shotrend the whole thing? What I mean is.. where the actual headers end.. could I not put my cut out right there? Like have it split off right there so I have my two cut-outs and on the inside the y-pipe.. and then the single cat. The cat wouldn't be any father back then the stock one.. only problem might by tranny getting in the way? I hope I explained that well enough.. if not.. what I mean is that exact set up in the picture.. only where the cut-out splits off into the y-pipe, that is right after the headers.

I wouldn't want that.....the path of airflow gets screwed up when you do that. may as well just get a non-mandrel bent Y pipe, since the exhaust flow isn't going to be smooth anyways

I think I kind of understand what your saying...

So... no way to do this with cats on? Any other suggestions as to a cut out system similar to this that might work? I want two cut outs so I can basicaly run it open header whever I want to... thanks guys
